Pretty good album overall, though some songs definitely overstayed their welcome.

Recommemded to me by a friend and Holy Shit this is a fantastic album. Every song here is amazing and unique and I can't believe I haven't found this band sooner.
Not the worst but not great, I'll have to ask a friend for a diff album to listen to from them cos I fear this was not a good introduction. 😅
A perfectly fine debut punk album primarily tackling aspects of what its like being a woman in modern western society, with short detours to talk about what its like being poor in Northern Ireland and the rise of TERFs in primarily queer spaces. I wish I liked it more than I did, but the vocals in many of the songs unfortunately weren't for me, and most of the instrumentals were too plain to make up for it. I'd like to say too, the second half of this album is much much stronger than ... read more
Biased as hell cos this album is engrained in me thanks to my child self. Anyways I decided to listen to it again for the first time in like 5-6 years and it still holds up imo but it definitely isn't for everyone.
Very bizarre & eclectic album, best I can describe it is like if a hippie, a goth & a punk tried to adapt Brother's Grimm.

Didn't hit the way I hoped it would.
Sidenote: when I saw "Ocean Man" on the tracklist I assumed it was either a different song with the same name or a cover, so I was very pleasantly surprised to realise this is the origin of The ocean man.

Post-Album Thoughts:
I am a very lyrically inclined person, and my preferred method of listening for these ratings/reviews is to find a lyric page and read alongside the music. I couldn't do this for this album as I could only find the lyrics to ... read more

Overall a very fun, albeit short, album. One thing I appreciate is the variety of sounds, both instrumentally and vocally, that give each song its own identity; often with harsher & louder projects I find that things have a tendency to melt together (at least to my unknowledgeable ears.)
Found this because a musician I like mentioned it on a podcast it's definitely an interesting one, very experimental with the way some of the instruments are utilised.
Looking forward to listening to Bird's other stuff, though this is definitely one I'll have to return to the lyrics of at some point to try decipher what the hell is going on.
First time listening to Metallica with all sorts of preconceived notions trailing alongside, so we'll see how it goes.
I thought it'd be another metal album that I like but ultimately find lacking in numerous ways. Whether it be that the lyrical depth gets pushed aside in favour of one-tone screaming or the songs blend together and become one inarticulate goop of *something* or a number of other criticisms I'm sure you've heard regarding metal before.
Point is: I was ... read more
Think I found this on a random "dark and disturbing" album list so I have no prior knowledge of Maurice De Jong's other works.
It was...fine? I'm not really the target audience for this anyways so it's not unexpected. A few things stuck out to me here & there and I'm sure I'd appreciate it more if I knew more about the process behind it so maybe I'll give it another go in the future but who knows.
First introduction to this band and god its a good one.
