Raye swings for the fences with THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE. - and, whilst it does begin to drag a bit in the second half, Raye never falls below the Mendoza line. Raye has a fantastic voice which carries well with much of the production. Although, there were a few moments on the album where just as an interesting instrumental moment began to take hold - it would abruptly jump to something more basic. The biggest issue I had is with the songwriting. Raye touches on some really great themes and topics - however, I found a lot of the lyricism to be quite basic and on the nose. Creates some interesting soundscapes - but, I feel as though it could have utilised the tape aspect a bit more. Overall a cool album.
Maybe my taste has changed in the past 8 years. Maybe I expected more. Either way this didn't grab me like I'd wished.
Really love the instrumentation on this one. The bits of electronic 'glitching' (i guess) throughout is a really nice touch.
