Weirdly, this album feels over-produced and rushed at the same time. There are loads of nice kick drums, retro synth effects and all, but the interludes are kinda annoying and most of the songs end up sounding a bit soulless and all the same. With some exceptions - Less Than Zero, I’m looking at you, even though you sound a lot like The War On Drugs. Overall, loved After Hours but this one is a bit of a disappointment to me.
After 4 years of waiting she gives us the antithesis of an event album, which may be a bit underwhelming for most, but Solar Power is actually full of interesting low-profile details, sonic and lyric-wise. And I’m living for its cutesy vibes.
