The soul spirit and vibe of this album is infectious as all hell. There's a funk and sway in each and every song that's super infectious, giving it a quality that makes you unable to help yourself, but smile. There's a charisma that cannot be denied of Erykah herself, which is evident in her Afro skit and all the speaking moments in the songs, like the opening of Appletree. She has such a motherly vibe to her that I personally find myself attached to. There's a smoothness to ... read more
My hate for this album cover does enough to bring this score down... joking aside and while I scroll to not see that image, this album isn't bad. It's strongly produced and has some great sound quality to it and strangely enough that does it less favors as it loses it's unique quality in that her voice would work behind behind some live-sounding acoustic instrumentals. There's a jazzy beach sound to this album that really sells its "millionaire club" aesthetic, but ... read more

Now that Killing Me Softly is always playing at my work, this album's been on my mind more than ever. It's such a good collection of songs, and I intend to discover more of Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, but this is probably their peak and magnum opus. Aside from the previously mentioned hit, Zealots, Fu-Gee-La, and The Score are so good. I love the production and how it sounds live, especially in No Woman, No Cry, and how Many Mics. The three of them really come together as a cohesive ... read more
