This is my favorite album of all time.
I can't tell you the amount of times I've listened to it. Not because I don't know, but because by the time I tell you, the number will be out of date. In my worst times, in my best times, The Strokes' Is This It has been there for me.

Dark, intense, and unendingly creative. There's no shortage of people talking about how surprising it is that he went from this to Veteran, or to Cornballs, or to LP!, but to me it feels entirely natural. As Peggy has gone through his career, he's become more and more focused on his sound. As a result, when we go back further to this album, it's far less focused than his newer work, but retains the DIY mayhem feel. It's deeply interesting, at once unsettling and soothing.
