GORILLAZ DDD
Going into this record i already had an idea of how good it'll be, since i already knew a lot of the tracks, and I'm going to say that my initial assumption is pretty much spot on. An overall good album that experiments with a lot of different sounds across a wide range of different genres. This is something that would end up defining Gorillaz' sound, but this being their first record it's not done quite as good as even their sophmore "Demon Days". ... read more
Pretty good first half, kinda falls apart on the second half except for "Small World" and "2009". Other than that pretty solid rap album, but nothing revolutionary. It addresses some sensitive topics for Mac such as drug abuse and struggling with fame and listening to some lyrics feels really sad having the hindsight of what would happen to Mac only a couple of months after releasing "Swimming". Overall a good record but not necessarily something to write home about
Fantano put it really well when he said "What you see is what you get" about this record. just a solid west coast rap album. Really fun, celebratory and well thought out when it comes to the lyrics, the beats and the delivery. Maybe my only issue is that it can come off as a bit preachy, especially on "man at the garden", but at the same time he ain't wrong. Also the track "GNX" is an abomination, reminds of "Cherry Bomb" in the worst day possible, I ... read more
I never really understood the SZA hype, but about a week ago I decided I should give it a try and decided to listen to CTRL. I listened to a couple tracks and decided it's not for me, but something made me want to give it a second chance, so this time i listened to SOS. I noticed immediately that it's a lot slower and relaxed than CTRL, which I really liked, but other than that I wasn't really left with anything on the first listen. After a couple more spins however it grew on me ... read more
Best Romanian album ever. That is not a stretch, that's just the truth. It's just so creative, expressive and well-crafted. Bosquito is a band known mostly for their party music but on this album they're SERIOUS. With subjects such as love, being away from family and the evil that people with power do, this album really makes you think. I LOVE "Juruinta", "Printesa Inorog" and "Satelit" and I don't think there's a single skip on this ... read more
Clairo is THE bedroom pop artist. Such a beautiful, calming, introspective and charming project, it feels like being snugged in a blanket, watching the rain outside. The lyrics are great and the intricate but not overbearing instrumentals complement the hush whispered vocals in a way that makes my brain tickle.
Starting off strong with the opener "Nomad" setting the mood and the themes of the record with some beautiful, poetic lyrics and catchy melodies, after which transitioning into ... read more
This album does NOT miss. It grows on you like crazy. The first time I listened to it i would've gave it around a 70 but now i understand it. It's clear that Charli knows how to make a stupidly catchy banger but also a sad ballad. With it's instantly ear catching sound and thought provoking lyricism, this might just be the greatest album of the year. Charli just sounds so alive and unapologetically her. From the opening track 360, to the closer 365, which is a direct callback to ... read more
LET'S RIDE, LET'S RIDE, LET'S RIDE!!!
This is such a fun listen. It marks Charlie's change in direction, from regular, BORING pop, to what is now known as Hyperpop. Charli, alongside A.G Cook and Sophie were pretty much the pioneers of this genre, and they come together on this EP to deliver something truly unique for it's time. It's easy nowadays to call some of the few tracks in here "uninspired hyperpop" but you need to remember this is one of the ... read more
I don't think this is what any of us expected.
It's an interesting blend of loud, abrasive, but also melodic and sweet sounds that you don't really find anywhere else. The sound of this album changes very rapidly, from the intro track St. Chroma being this intense, stressful, almost eye opening track, to Darling, I being a sweet, poppy song about love. It feels like a combination of all of Tyler's previous sounds polished to perfection, with the features which are at points ... read more
Pretty ok, I like the experimental sound but it's not always great. Some of the songs kinda suck, like Cherry bomb and Blow my load, but some are pretty good, the standout being Smuckers, but also Deathcamp and Buffalo. Most of the songs are just fine, mediocre, easy to forget. Tyler's second worst probably, at least it's not as gross as Goblin
Billie Eilish and her brother Phineas prove once again that they are among the best artists of our generation. This record is just so beautifully crafted and polished to perfection. I like to think of this record as Billie's "IGOR", a love story that starts promising but ends tragically.
"HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" takes you on a trip to Eilish's love life, with all it's highs and lows. The sound is a bit of a departure from Billie and Finneas's usual style, ... read more
Pretty ok. Ngl the singles are really the best songs off the album, the rest are pretty mediocre, but not bad. I love the lyrics, they're horny as FUCK but also super funny and smart. I really love Taste, i think it's a great song and a really good opener for the album, also Please Please Please, don't smile and my favorite, my dear Bed chem, god i love that one. The rest of the tracks honestly feel like filler which is especially bad considering this album is only around 30 ... read more
This is beautiful. Blonde is one of the most sentimental, full of storytelling albums i ever listened to. You can just close your eyes while listening and emerse yourself in the music and it's incredible. There is a story attached and it's pretty complicated honestly, i couldn't understand too much off of the album alone but after watching a video explaining it it made me love this album that much more. It's so consistently great and beautiful and very much outside of my ... read more
THIS! This is peak Lana! It's the perfect combination of the sounds of NFR and Ocean Blvd. I still think that Ocean Blvd. is better but god does this come close. I don't even know what to say about it, the lyrics are great and deep and pretty funny sometimes, the instrumental is so ✨Ethereal✨, I love the moments when Lana just kinda breaks down and screams, it's just overall really good. For sure my second favorite Lana album, right between NFR and Ocean Blvd. My favorite ... read more
**UPDATE: I LIKE IT A LOT MORE. (I WROTE SOMETHING LONGER ABOUT IT BUT I DELETED IT BY ACCIDENT SO YEAH I JUST GET IT) **
INITIAL SCORE: 70
UPDATED SCORE:80
I like the concept of this album. On paper this is an absolutely incredible record, with it's interesting story and just unapologetically raw anger but also just pure humour, but something happens somewhere in the process of idea to product and the result is an album that, while interesting and unique, doesn't really make me ... read more
"Graduation" is probably the best hype album, something to just make you feel like you're the fucking man, it's really good. Not really much more to say, there's some emotional stuff as well like on "I Wonder" and "Everything I Am" and that's done really well. Really the only downside on this album is "Drunk and Hot Girls" which is just an abomination of a song that shouldn't have evet left the studio.
Overall, it's a really ... read more
"Flower Boy" marks a new era for Tyler, the Creator. Gone are the days of offensive lyrics and edgy production, Tyler creating some of the most beautiful, polished and meticulous songs I've ever heard. This record is full of luscious instrumentals, deep topics like loneliness and sexuality, and amazing features from artists like Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky and Estelle.
On the production side, Tyler proves that he's not a one trick pony, blending instruments that aren't ... read more
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is an album that takes you on an expensive, luscious trip around the world and around Tyler's world. From the summery, relaxed vibe of the music, that makes you feel like you're chilling on the beach, to the pastel aesthetic of the promotional art and Tyler's appearances at the time, this record manages to paint a picture more detailed that any other of his albums. The opener "SIR BAUDELAIRE" sets the mood perfectly for what's to come, ... read more
Billie Eilish's debut album, "WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?", presents a sound that her and her brother, Finneas would never quite come back to: this dark, almost thriller like sound mixed with hushed vocals that manage to create a weird feeling of suspense. It's worth noting that Billie Eilish, and especially this album were my favorite artist and album respectively when I was about 12. That said, as I get older I can definitely point out the flaws in this, and ... read more
MIA's debut album "Arular" delivers a sound that you won't find anywhere else. It's a blend of hip-hop, electronic and experimental that only she could pull off. With it's almost disco sound and serious topics, this project feels both dated and futuristic at the same time.
Being inspired by MIA's journey as a Sri-lankan imigrant, this albums speaks on the topic of war, stereotypes and societal problems, especially in third world countries. At the same, ... read more
