i very much enjoyed this - the amount of time this album takes up is not felt much at all. there were some absolutely beautiful numbers like You Retreat in Time and Space, and also bangers like Nakara that rival the rest of their discography. eclectic in influence, electronically wonky. BOC is back.
what a concert, what a set too. i love hearing people appreciating these guys while they were in their day, it makes me feel better about how i might not even get to cheer for them at this age. A Tear for Eddie is absolutely INCREDIBLE; i hope whoever shouted for Deaner to play that right before never forgets it. great display of what they were up to back in the day. Voodoo Lady is on another level now, + a lot of their early stuff has new life breathed into it when you hear it live.
if you think this version of Poop Ship Destroyer is a total sh*tpost, they’ve done a 50min one before, and in their words - “it’s what you get for living in Fort Lauderdale”.
STOP REFRESHING WHEN IM WRITING ON MY PHONE, ALBUM OF THE YEAR. SERIOUSLY, I HATE YOU. here’s a gist of what i said since it got nuked:
Ween’s not known for being cohesive over an album with their concepts. this however is one of the greatest concept albums ever; the way the music fits the writing is so impressive, and the lyrics are as ridiculous as ever. Ocean Man is the shortest “perfect song” i’ve known, but Ween also has a lot of those, so it’s not much ... read more
