Weyes Blood - And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow
88

Euphoric, ethereal and just bloody lovely!

Little Simz - NO THANK YOU
84

As always, absolutely brilliant.

Not quite on the same level as her past two albums, but she cant really go wrong, the most consistent MC in the world right not

Alex Cameron - Oxy Music
69

Not his best, although K Hole might just top the list of greatest Alex Cameron songs

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
86

A lot better than DAMN for sure, and a very welcome return after a painstakingly long 5 year wait for an album. Not quite reaching the blinding lights that Kendrick has been known for, but he's still at his best here. Also, probably the most vulnerable we've seen Kendrick on an album, which definitely offers us something different from his previous efforts.

Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia
92

I seriously love this record. It's easily their best effort yet, and is so packed with such raw emotion and excellent songwriting.

i love you grian chatten

Wet Leg - Wet Leg
77

They honestly get a lot of undeserved hate from all the tik-tok crowds and the "oooooooh they're massive industry plants fuck these guys" crowd.

Wet Leg are harmless fun, and their blend of indie and post-punk is very refreshing for the scene in my opinion. Whilst this record is still very rough around the edges, I think its a promising debut for the band, and I hope they can continue to grow and improve.

Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems
90

THIS IS SO REFRESHING!!! Hardcore at its very very best, and a creative and raw sound that I haven't heard from anyone for a long time. Inject it into my veinsssssss

Probably the best deathcore that came out this year, Ramos is literally not human. Although ambitious, at times the album falls flat, particularly in its middle. None of the songs really stuck, and the deathcore breakdowns were not really adding anything to the album anymore.

But its the 3 piece finale to the album that really sets Lorna Shore above the rest, and the reason why this album is still worth checking out

Fleshwater - We're Not Here to Be Loved
83

Very glad that I didn't let this one slip under my radar. This album is great! Deftones are my favourite band, and this project is very Koi No Yokan inspired, but at the same time still very unique. The two vocalists work so well together and there is some super heavy riffs on here, I just wish it was longer!

Joji - SMITHEREENS
69

Been following this mans career path since he was stuffing ravioli in shirt pockets and making songs about Dora the Explorer. Now, Joji is an alt-pop superstar, and has truly found a unique sound which deserves all the attention it gets. However, in terms of full length projects, Joji has never been able to create a consistent enough record, and with this one only cocking in at 24 minutes, i was a little hesitant about it.

Metallica - Ride the Lightning
96

This is a perfect thrash metal album. Not a single miss on here, every track is a 10/10, and whilst MOP still probably edges it for me, Ride the Lightning is still such a fun album.

JID - The Forever Story
86

One of the best rap records that will come out this year. The flows are impeccable, the production is phenomenal and the features are all excellent. It's JID's magnum opus, and proves that he is at the top of the game right now.

Everything Everything - Raw Data Feel
82

This album is a super fresh addition to the bands discography, and is a welcome arrival after what was two fairly disappointing previous releases. It reminds me a lot of their greatest record Get To Heaven, and is a testament to what pop music really should sound like. An AI was used to create the lyrics, how has this not been done for? It's a genius concept, and the interesting lyrical themes of technology and brilliant synthpop hooks make it a very refreshing listen.

black midi - Hellfire

Their most consistent album to date. It's everything they have learned from their past two albums rolled into an avant-prog, experimental rock masterpiece that never lets up.

These songs translate even better live, and I implore you to see the band live if you get a chance

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Changes
78

Delightful listening and probably the best from all their October efforts. They really dont miss do they. Changes is a top 10 Gizz track as well.

King Gizz xmas album when????

Arctic Monkeys - The Car
65

Ok, I’ve tried to give this thing as many listens as I can bare, but I can bare no more.

I think its really self indulgent and quite boring. I liked tranquility base, the concept of the album intrigued me and the space-pop bangers in the tracklist was a welcome change of direction for the band. However, in The Car, there is very little redeeming the album.

It’s the Alex Turner show. Which isn’t a good thing. It’s almost Brendan Urie level of cringe. Turner’s ... read more

Chat Pile - God’s Country

A harrowingly dark listen, this album chews you up and vomits you back out again.

Its combination of industrial, post-hardcore and sludge metal instrumentals mirror the raw and disturbing lyrical themes that are not for the faint of heart. I LOVE IT. Also "grimace_smoking_weed.jpeg" is an absolute behemoth of a closing song, and is the embodiment of what makes this band really interesting.

Architects - The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit

Sam Carter came into my cafe today, and I did not have the heart to tell him that this is one of the most disappointing metalcore albums i've heard for a long long time.

Really lovely bloke though.

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There

Will keep coming back to this album probably for the rest of my life. ILYSM
