Good things come to those who wait, but man did he make us wait. Coming more than 6 years after his highly acclaimed debut, Sampha somehow manages to blow away expectations that were already incredibly high.
Lahai is a beautiful album from front to back. With instrumentation that makes you feel like you're floating and no shortage of passionate soulful lyrics, this record is one of the most complete works of music I've heard in awhile.
Sampha at his very best - simply phenomenal.
At first glance one may be tempted to think this is a breakup album but ironically the only reason it's called what it's called is because this man literally wears nails in his hair and it's a question people often ask him.
The title and almost every track on this album can either be over analyzed or laughed. There's greater messages but also just random shit you can't help but laugh at. Bro literally talking about mood swings and just goes WEEEEEEEE. It's just such an enjoyable album and I ... read more
With a bit of direction, Deko's production could legitimately be world class. That said, the singing and lyrics are god awful.
Deko if for whatever reason you see this reach out to midwxst or ericdoa PLEASE
midwxst is from my hometown and even went to my middleschool. I remember interacting with him a couple times but never really got to know him since he was a different year. Fast forward a few years and I discovered his music through a deep dive into hyperpop. With smash hits like "Trying", "riddle" and "care" Edgar had a distinct sound, blending elements of hyperpop, hip hop, emo rap and trap.
On E3, midwxst loses the elements of his sound that made him so ... read more
It's been said before but this album isn't for Astroworld fans, it's for Travis fans. I may wrestle with my own personal thoughts about Travis as a person, but damn this shit hit's hard. God's Country is not for me and K-POP is okay at best but the rest of the album is very good.
Probably the most respectable representation of juice since he passed. Em beat goes hard, the back and forth rapping is something i wish more artists did. Nowadays you just pay for a verse and pop that snippet on your track, but clearly some more effort went in here.
CANDY is a refinement of the distinct OSEAN WORLD x Deko aesthetic. Deko continues to show off his incredibly distinct production that, in my opinion, is at the bleeding edge of the genre. Overall this album is a massive improvement over previous works. The songwriting could definitely use some work, but beyond that I don't really think this needs to be over-analyzed. It's a vibe front-to-back.

I usually only do these with a group of friends but figured I share it here. I plan on doing a full review at some point for this album to.
The initial shock of "Holy shit this is a yachty album?!" was defintely a factor in how interested I was initially with this album. I've grown a bit colder to some of Yachty's lyrics but I still don't see it as a massive setback. This album, front-to-back is a psychedelic journey. Instrumentation feels otherworldly, from the synths to the drums ... read more
