EsDeeKid’s debut mixtape is getting a lot of attention and praise right now, and he is slowly becoming a mainstream name because of it. After listening, I mostly understand why. His flows are infectious, the production is hard hitting and slightly unconventional, but still accessible enough to where it will not deter the average casual trap fan. Quite easily the best late night listen of the year. This album is simple and sometimes repetitive, but this produces a beautiful atmosphere perfect for thinking and relaxing. Dedicated to his friend who passed away in 2023, much of the album feels very sentimental and somber as well. My only real criticisms is that towards the end, the songs do maybe sound a little too similar, and I think some more instrumental variety for miffle in the future would do him good. Legendary hip-hop group De La Soul’s return to music is here! Nearly 40 years after their classic album, 3 Feet High & Rising, the group is surprisingly still very solid. The production on this record is actually exceptionally beautiful, and the writing is often very personal or introspective, yet remains fun and mostly lighthearted.
