Egotrip manages to take the formula of chipmunk-soul sampling, which has become extremely overdone and uninspiring over the years, and add it’s extremely addictive charisma to make it one of the most enjoyable hip hop albums of the year. John Michel sounds so hungry in his performances making tracks like TAKE NO MORE, ONEWAY and PREACHER hype beyond comprehension. Not only is Michel charismatic through his performances, but Anthony James shows his talent through production that feels like ... read more
I can’t really pinpoint anything particularly bad about this album, however, there isn’t really much I can say I like about. As a dance pop album, I find it pretty bland, not really doing anything out of the ordinary or exceptionally in any area. The tracks that did pop out to me (Damn, Hackney Wick), as well as some ear catching moments throughout the album show a lot of potential for Rose Grey in the future.
The best AJR album to date. The front half of this album has so many genuinely good ideas. The title track is another of the bands staple dramatic openers that is done mostly well structurally with terrible lyrical execution. Touchy Feely Fool is extremely catchy but is once again held back by lyrics. The Dumb Song is easily the bright spot not only of this album, but of the band’s discography. It feels as though this is the one song that the band was able to hold back on adding quirky ... read more
First half I felt was decent with a couple highlights, but starting with Florence this thing hit me on a personal level that I can’t say many albums have done to me. I 100% expect this to grow on me even more.
I appreciate cancel me for the sole fact that it the only song on this that makes me feel something.
Two of my favorite songwriters of all time, I can’t believe this exists
Through the first five songs, I think this is one of the best albums of the decade. The second half fall off isn’t super dramatic, but it doesn’t carry the weight of the first leg of the album.
The trio blend together pretty well, each member bringing their strengths. Writing is hit or miss, but overall positive.

Some good, mostly really boring. I thought the first two tracks did a great job of expanding the sound from their previous album, but after that, the rest of Cop does the opposite. The other exceptions were the title track and Butcher, but besides those, this album can be a bit of a slog. I liked half of it. The other half, not so much.

Well, the title sure is accurate. Swans' debut album carries this dirty and industrial sound throughout, almost to an annoyingly constistent level. Almost every song has a similar structure, which has both positive and negative effects. I feel like the consitancy in sound and structure creates a feeling of inescapability and filthiness (sorry), that creates a layer of emersion for the listener. On the other hand, the similarities in song structure makes ... read more
Even with the shortness of this album, the sound does drag a little bit near the end. But when it goes hard, it goes hard.
It's so impressive how this album is able to sound as chaotic as it is, and still feel like it has something to say underneath. Despite the seemingly nonsensical writing of it, the album still projects an emotional flow, making it a great example of how to do controlled chaos right.
Some of the best indie folk you're ever gonna find. I love how cozy this album feels from start to finish, due to the incredible writing and vunerable vocals provided by Conner Oberst.
