Slowly going through the PinkPantheress discography. This was where it all started, where I became a fan. An old friend of mine showed me "Just for me" way back in 2021 and that song along with "Pain" were earworms for me. Though regrettably I haven't checked out much more of her music until last year. Despite this being her first fleshed-out project and the other two showing significant growth in her writing and production, I like this one the best. It's short, ... read more
I found Lemon Demon from some friends on Discord. I heard some songs off this album and thought I would like it more. For example, I think "Ultimate Showdown" and thought it was one of the catchiest nerdy songs I've ever heard. Same with "Action Movie Hero Boy." And I absolutely loved the indietronica elements on "Fine." Yes, Dinosaurchestra is quirky, but not in an overwhelmingly cringe way. It's moreso quirky in a wholesome geeky way. I wish more of the ... read more
The majority of this album feels like when your drunk uncle hogs the mic during karaoke. The last three songs are really good. Especially the last one.
I found the masterpiece "In the Meantime" from an Instagram reel. I've had that song on repeat lately and wanted to hear more Spacehog... Well, what I can say is that it was definitely an experience. A very messy experience. This album has very ethereal production, but what ruins it is the shitty singing and bad mixing. And some songs are written poorly on top of that. Don't get me wrong, there are some songs that were made pretty well, like "Starside" and ... read more
I loved Word of Mouth as a kid, and now I am listening to the album as an adult. This was definitely a very experimental album for John. It's all over the place, yet has a distinct enough sound. It's hard to explain. The production was definitely a new angle, which served very well at times but failed in others. For example, I absolutely loved "Focus" and "Miserable Exaggeration", but the banjo folk rap he was attempting in "Make Money Money" was just not ... read more
I just relistened to this album in full for the first time on the way back from work. I will say, it's definitely above par for Christian music, and definitely a great album by Christian standards. The production is very vibrant and theatrical. The writing is decent at best, but the instrumentation carries some of these songs to be awesome listens. For example, "So Long Self" is pretty catchy, "Hold Fast" and "Something About You" have some of the best ... read more
I heard most of these songs already but just decided to go down the rest of Laura's catalog under the Delta name cuz why not? I can sense a lot of maturity and emotional brevity in her writing while still delivering the subject matter of what this genre usually consists of (flexing, cool factor [for lack of a better word], etc). Although I'm impressed with the writing, I don't think the ideas are executed well on some songs, like "my way down," for example. I can tell ... read more
Platonico - 75
Continuar - 70
Mais um Tempo - 80
I believe Abel is an amazing singer and talented musician. His music has an ambiance that hooks you in pretty easily. He knows how to make hits and write passionate, heartfelt lyrics while having an impressive voice on top of all that. My only problem is that his recent material has felt very bloated, this album included. When you have 20+ songs on an album, and not having much variety in between these songs, the album will start to run dry and feel bland even though every song is good. I had ... read more
Alex G is a very hit or miss artist for me. Sometimes he creates great material like Race and DSU, other times he makes snoozefests like Rules and this. He is a great instrumentalist, there's no denying that. I don't think he can truly make bad music. But this was just mid. It felt like he wasn't giving it his all and just coasted through most of the album. Since his discography is such a gamble, it makes me ponder on if I should continue listening to more of his work.
I'm gonna go on a personal tangent for a bit so here's the TLDR: this was an unexpectedly great album from Darkie, a bit rough around the edges but I notice his growth and his potential from here on out. He's grown so much over the years and I hope he makes more music like this.
For the latter half of high school and in freshman year of college, I absolutely loved Lil Darkie. He was my favorite artist. I loved how abrasive, creative, and versatile he was. Also, since I was a ... read more
I love the blend of math rock and midwest emo here. Beautiful writing and production. The screaming vocals don't fit in every song, but they hit hard on some.
This was a pleasant experience, I can see how A Tribe Called Quest cemented themselves as rap legends. Although a lot of the bars are corny, as I've come to learn about this era of rap, they are still capable, hungry lyricists. The first half of the album was pretty weak, and I was worried it would continue down that path. Thankfully, it picked up and picked up strong after the fifth track. The huge selling point for me is the jazz rap elements throughout the album. The production is Low ... read more
This is my first time checking out Glaive since the pandemic. I used to listen to him a lot back then. God, how time flies. Anyway, this was a pretty enjoyable project from him. I think he's matured a lot since those days, and he's improved heavily as an artist. He's a much better writer and has a much more captivating sound than he used to. However, I think "Y'all" is a bit bloated. I feel like he could've cut out some of these tracks and made the remaining ... read more
For a while I thought EDM was dead until I listened to this album. Porter Robinson is a musical prodigy and I will definitely be checking out more of his music. He reminds me of Brakence but if Brakence focused more on production than rapping.
EDIT: This is the album that made me realize that I love indietronica. I wish they made more albums :/
It's actually insane how fresh Pusha T and Malice sound 20 years since the Clipse days. With their hunger and high energy throughout the album, if you didn't know better, you'd think they're underdogs claiming their rightful place. I also loved Pharrell's presence throughout the album, delivering some elegant hooks. I think this is the best rap album of the year, but I still need to listen to more material.
This was my first introduction to JID. He's a very talented rapper and I like the soulful vibe I got from this album. However, a lot of songs didnt hit like that for me. Also, what the fuck did Bob the Builder do to him?
