Very overrated, but still great rapping, mostly decent flows but sometimes lyrically unfocused, with certain production choices (COUGH COUGH HEART OF THE CITY) being heavily overrated compared to contemporaries at the time (2001, TCD)
Pretty consistent across the board, all I wanted obviously a highlight and im down to listen to more Paramore in the future
Still a big fan of what's going on in this record, just doesn't have the consistency of Malibu or Oxnard
yes i will be posting king james on my instagram note the day he retires
This is equally good to Malibu but in much different ways. You take away the warm summer vibes for a cooler, fall, Dre-flavored production style that lends to there being (admittedly some amazing) rap features on this from the likes of Kendrick, Pusha T and Cole. Very consistent as well
Now this isn't BAD by any means, but it just feels like you took Malibu, kept the bars and flows and melodic moments from Paak but sucked everything that made it soulful out.
I mean, this is just such a soulful album, down to its roots. Anderson .Paak did a great job here of curating songs that simply make you feel good: whether it's songs that make you carefree, put a smile on your face, or quite honestly just make you feel like that mf guy in the case of Come Down. Kind of the perfect summer album, will be bumping this more.
Wag wan Delilah levels of career tarnishing but this song went under the radar so Travis is lucky
I was kinda scared while listening to this that it would be another case of the Cilvia Demos--overated J. Cole-esque lyrical hiphop. Thankfully, not only does Big K.R.I.T.'s flair on the first disc (alongside some tasteful Dirty Souf features) ensure that, the surprisingly touching lyrics after a breathtaking transition to the second disc shatter outside perception. Even though this album is fucking LOOOONG, it mostly stays fresh and clean (no Outkast, which ironically would've been a ... read more
Just straight earcandy. Fun, yet heavy at the same time.
EDIT:
Not doing a full review, but just know this album bangs. It's way more consistent than even Dark Times, very poignant in messaging even if you aren't getting masterfully Michael Uzowuru-produced tracks like on Dark Times.
Original:
Probably Vince Staples' best, but keep in mind I listened to this sleep deprived so potentially this score may swing in the next week days and a full review will be dropping (sometime? maybe tmr probably not)
This is very much a White Pony situation, where I can tell the album is high quality but I'm simply not the hugest fan of the genre. I'm sure this was mind-blowing in 2002, but I just feel like this is a lot simpler to make today, thus I was not blown away.
74 is the number of the day i guess...
i listened to this album a few weeks ago but forgot to rate it. if it was a 6 track EP using the first 6 tracks it would probably be a 90
