Met expectations. Travis Scott is the McDonald's of rap. Easily digestible, but don't expect to be taking anything away long term from this. He is more of a curator than an actually outstanding artist anymore. A lot of sleepy songs on this with some standouts. It's cool, I guess
This is therapy through music. One of them most soothing, palate cleansing albums I've ever heard. Not a wasted song or bar. If Ye (album) was at times abrasive and braggadocious, this is almost melancholy while still maintaining self-confidence. I don't see either of these artists ever topping this again, and honestly, I can live with that. Simply stunning
EDIT 95 -> 98
Was looking through my albums and think this deserves a bump up. Definitely on KSG level, probably my favorite solo Kanye project
All killer no filler. Terrifying, but comforting. Contradiction seems to be the theme of this project, with Kanye going in depth about his personal life and grappling with his bipolar disorder. By the end, the only gripe I have with this album is that I'm left wanting more.
The greatest mess of an album ever. I have no faith that Kanye knew at all what he was doing here, but it happened to all fall into place to create one of the most fun listens in his catalogue. I weirdly find myself coming back to this more than a lot of his other, more polished projects, even if it's far from perfect
Not gonna act like this is my jam, but I respect its impact on the art and its influence has spawned many albums I like more.
I'm not as high on this one as some others (I say while still giving it an 89), but it is undeniably the blueprint for modern hip-hop. Crazily polished, perfectly curated. The first two thirds are a perfect record.
He made Graduation. Switching around his sound to this epic, stadium, synth-filled hip-hop really influenced his career to come. Striking hits, but also some of my favorite chill mellow tracks from him.
Kanye's sequel to the College series is probably his least talked about in the modern age, but maybe that label is a little unfair, as it holds up well in comparison to the other two. Great hits, hard hitting bars and features.
Kanye's debut is phenomenal. Pioneering a genre of hip-hop production, West tackles pressing societal issues while still managing to stay down to Earth on this record. His portrayal of himself as the underdog and this guy that was bound to succeed makes him extremely likable. Very quotable bars too; earlier today even I caught myself saying that I had a "buzz bigger than insects in Texas".
Frank Ocean's magnum opus, and the album that got everyone obsessed with Frank "dropping another". This album is so perfect he doesn't need to drop another. Feeding me for generations. My go-to for when I'm feeling moody.
My favorite album ever. Absolutely ridiculous how every track feels so unique but has this entrancing, disturbing soundscape that adds perfectly to the atmosphere and concept of the album. Tyler outdid himself here, seriously. Even years later this holds up insanely well. Just crazy man
EDIT 55 -> 50 for consistency
Really sleepy. Not disappointed because I wasn't expecting much, but by no means was I pleasantly surprised.
Glorious, beautiful, the culmination of years of experience by the Clipse and some of the best production we've heard from Pharrell in recent years. Insane, my album of the year right now
