KDot's weakest. This album was more than certainly made just for the Super Bowl performance and not much else. Some decent hits but some annoying cuts too. Still got tickets to the tour though lmao
Kendrick's most personal. First listen seriously brought me to tears. Auntie Diaries is one of his greatest ever.
Kendrick's (second) most commercial album to date, and it has the hits to make it work. However, if anybody tries to convince you that this album has any deeper meaning all together or that it goes beneath surface level they're misguided.
EDIT: 88 -> 82
I'm seeing myself come back to the albums rated above this a lot more
Conscious hip-hop at its best. It's almost palpable in Kendrick's voice how much he truly cares what he's rapping about. He got the West Coast Avengers together for this, and it completely works. There's a reason it's so acclaimed
One of the first full hip-hop albums I ever listened to, and I'm glad I picked this one over any other. The West Coast is propped up well on this one. Kendrick's best hits are on here for my money.
I'm glad Peggy's having fun but I'm never coming back to this
No skips here. Easily the best curation on any Peggy project. Loving the rap-rock fusion with Peggy's instrumentation, and the features on here slap.
I actually used to hate this album, but that's mostly because I wasn't high on Danny Brown's voice. On revisit, this thing is a ton of fun. Some of the weirdest sample flips in hip-hop.
One of Peggy's most polished. The samples here are crazy, and it's not a crazy long listen like some of his prior projects too
Still wacky, but I love the cuts on here that are more mellow as well. Free the Frail is my favorite Peggy song for sure
I'm actually a lot higher on this than some, but yeahhhhhh... it's really bloated. First day was an insane experience though with the hidden features. I still think to this day that the Kendrick features are overhated. This is Carti's least experimental to date, which is why it feels like it has diminishing returns compared to his catalogue
I might change this later because of the whole Carti effect thing where this might grow heavily on me, but this album while having hits is just a little too bloated for me. There's also some times where Carti forgets how to make a catchy but also not annoying hook? I don't know, this is probably the most influential album of the 2020s but I can't fully get behind it atm
edit 1: 68 -> 70 aging wel
This record had the Carti effect on me. I completely wrote it off for years besides a few standouts like R.I.P, but the more I listened the more addicted I got. This is now my favorite trap album by a good margin. Pierre completely blows it out of the water here on production and curation (something that becomes especially noticeable looking at this album next to other albums in his discog). Carti's flows are simple but catchy. I've gotten so many hooks from this album in my head
Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Thug has some of the weirdest, creative flows in trap right now.
Passable. Nothing on here wowed me, but I wasn't turned away. Also really short
