Elliott Smith - Either/Or
100

“What is a poet? An unhappy man who hides deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are so formed that when the sigh and cry pass through them, it sounds like lovely music.... And people flock around the poet and say: 'Sing again soon' - that is, 'May new sufferings torment your soul but your lips be fashioned as before, for the cry would only frighten us, but the music, that is blissful.”

my bloody valentine - loveless
100

“Loveless” is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, shoegaze records of all time, and I definitely agree with that statement. The music on this album is a mixture of noisy dream pop and shoegaze. The album gives off a very ethereal, dreamy, and kind of bittersweet feeling throughout the full duration. The songs on this LP are very consistent, not only in their quality but also in their similarity to one another. This creates a very coherent listen that feels more like ... read more

Swans - To Be Kind

Thank ya’ll for 200 followers! Sorry for taking such a long time to write this review. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
“To Be Kind” is a very hard album for me to review. It also was a very hard album for me to get into and enjoy. A very good way of thinking about “to be kind” is not treating it like a normal music record, but as a separate living and breathing entity, which is wildly discousting, but also hypnotising and sort of calculated. “to be kind” ... read more

平沢進 [Susumu Hirasawa] - 救済の技法 [Technique of Relief]
100

Forget that ROSALIA album! Susumu Hirasawa’s “Technique of Relief” is the best orchestral pop album of all time!
Susumu Hirasawa is most well-known for creating the soundtrack for the animated adaptation of the manga “Berserk”, which is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, manga and anime of all time. It’s also one of my personal favourites. But this review is focused on what’s most often considered Susumu Hirasawa’s best work, ... read more

Depeche Mode - Violator

This album is a perfect example of a perfect album and was probably the best synthpop album until it got dethroned by Magdalena Bay’s Imaginal disk. I was familiar with Depeche Mode since my early childhood, Enjoy the Silence was my mom’s ringtone, so I was hearing it all the time. I got into listening to Depeche Mode’s biggest singles when I first started listening to music frequently, but I still wasn’t listening to any of their whole albums then. I only started doing ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica
96

wow... i can't tell if this album sounds like the cover, but im more leaning towards it sounding like the cover. This album has such a unique atmosphre. You do get the dreamy and drony ambient sections, but also you get these wierd samples that somehow work (the best example of those is probably sleep dealer, though it's not the only song where the samples work very well). I really don't know if there's a good way to describe this record, but i think that this album feels ... read more

Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
100

The sorrow level... IT'S OVER 9000!!!
Would you look at that, it's another perfect Opeth album.
With this album, Opeth change their sound from their older, more black metal adjacent sound on albums like "Orchid" and "Morningrise" to a more death metal-focused sound. This album offers a combination of cool and kickass death metal and prog, and sorrow. Most of the songs follow a simple yet effective formula: first, you get the kickass death and prog with epic growls, ... read more

thanks for the rec @mortonsalt I really appreciate you recommending me so much good stuff !

I really don't know where to start with this album. I also don't know how to review it...
I think that this is a brilliant black metal album that is also very different in many ways from other black metal projects.
I also find it very difficult for me to talk about the musical and songwriting elements of this record. This sort of depressive black metal stuff is very up my alley, and yes, the ... read more

Forgotten Woods - The Curse of Mankind

Thanks for the recc @mortonsalt! your review on morningrise motivated me to finnaly review this album.
Wow i didin't expect this album to be like this. I realy love the groovy burzum/mgła-esque guitar on this thing. The vocals also sound like vargs vocals on a alot of the burzum stuff . when i started listening to this album i thought that it will be some classic black metal with nothing wierd about it but boy was was i wrong ! I'll first start off with THE DISCO DRUMS??? it really ... read more

Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery

thenks for the recc @fartgoblin!
well well well,l.. if it isn't yet another amazing melodic death metal album!
what i love about this record is how dark tranquillity merges it's own sound with the 90's melodeath sound. it's filled with riffs shining with life, emotional guitars and vocals and that melodeath spice.
this is a record that's up there with albums like "slaughter of the soul" and "the jester race".
this album kinda feels like a fusion ... read more

Amnio - The Entropy Within Our Hearts

thanks for the recc from @mortonsalt! ... again.
this is some noice melodeath. It's got everything that the genre needs to be good , melodic earwormy guitars, loud drums screechy vocals and very loud mastering.
The music on this album is defenitly well made, but the band here is not afraid to wear their "the black dahilia murder" murder influence on their sleeves.
I also think that if this ep wasn't 12 minutes long it would get quite repetative, but it isn's so ... read more

Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane

thanks for the recc from @mortonsalt!

this is the best fusion of black metal and melodeath out there !
I'm really suprised that i didin't listen to this album before, i am a big black and melodic death metal guy after all, but i guess that i had different things on my mind.
This record realy feels like i colder and darker version of something like at the gates' "slaughter of the soul" or in flames' "the jester race" and holy shit... i adore it.

this is my favourite jazz fusion album and one of my favourite jazz albums.
i had this album on my radar for a long time, and only recantly i bothered to listen to it... and im in awe
It's hard to put this record into words, but that's what i'll try to do.

trying to get into this album was an adventure. this album is the only album that i was listening in the past few days but that didin't bother me at all. You'll find new things about this album on every listen. ... read more

Deftones - private music

This is an amazing return to form from deftones!

this album opens up with a bang, "my mind is a mountain" is a classic deftones bop, and it grew on me sience i heard it as a single.
I love the experimentation with time signatures on the second song, clearly a bit of meshuggah influence.
i love the sinths on "ecosys" they remind me of terraria i think this song is a good example of deftones practicing their usual formula and it works very well.

thank you @kelosor for the reccomendation!

this is my kind of shit
I think that every idea is executed perfectly on this album. from the guitar playng and the bass playing to the production.I think that the vocals are great too!
This album struggles a bit in the middle but recovers at the end.
I adore the mixture of genres on this record, the dreamy ambience and noisy guitars are perfect.
I hope that this album gets the recognition it deserves. lets pray 🙏

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

very cool, catchy and well produced album from genesis.
I think that it could use a bit more experimentation tho. Still a great prog album.

Swans - Filth

this album is pretty good!

my favourite thing on this album is the guitar playng, the chords just make me feel something.
I prefer when michaels vocals are more emotional than angry on this record, the angry vocals are good too.
the main drawback of this album i that some of the songs get stale and boring quickly.
I still love songs like "stay here", "power for power" and "right wrong".
i think that "big strong boss" is my least favourite song on ... read more

On mortonsalt's review of Opeth - Morningrise
"Great review bro ! Opeth has one of the best discographys in all of music in my opinion. Picking a favourite Opeth album for me is like picking a favourite child, buttt one of the children has one of my favourite stories in all of music. I saw Opeth preform the night and the silent water once and that's still one of my favourite expieriencess of my life, buttt they didin't preform anything from still life and mikael said that heir apparent is boring so he's my opp now."
