A very laid-back overall experience. Compared to their other albums, this one is slower and mellower, which is an appreciated direction for their catalogue. I really enjoyed Harriet Wheeler and David Gavurin's chemistry as in every one of their works. I think the band has mastered its own sound, so a little experimentation won't hurt them. Overall, a great album!
An incredible 1-hour experience I've ever listened to. Broken down into 4 parts, each of them having different sounds that connect the whole track together. The repetitive, layered guitar riff at the beginning of the song sounds calming, yet is accompanied by a distant and echoey explosion in the background. But then, the tension releases and unravels into the second part, with a slow, intimate atmosphere and a spectacular guitar work. In the midst of it, a distorted guitar comes creeping ... read more
I'm genuinely fascinated by the diverse sound of the album. The samples felt dissonant, but they somehow made it work through a bunch of layers and production. Beth Gibbons's anxious delivery and dark lyricism transformed the already dark-sounding album to a whole new level. Overall, it's one hell of an album!
Who would've thought mixing Christian beliefs into Black Metal was a good idea, because it is. As a Christian myself, for the longest time, I've been avoiding Black Metal due to its association with anti-Christ and misanthropy messages. Although I was interested in their sound, I couldn't disconnect the lyrics, so I eventually stopped listening to the genre. After being recommended this album online, I was intrigued and decided to give it a listen. The overall sound of the album ... read more
A dreamy and retrospective album. Immediately highlighted the album's immersive crescendos, since they reminded me of my first listen to "Souvlaki," which was amazing. I really appreciate the mixing and production on this album; it perfectly fits the Shoegaze soundscape and sort of paints a layer of nocturnal atmosphere. Overall, an amazing album experience!
My introduction to the genre of Latin Rock, and it was insane. Carlos Santana has been regarded as one of the greatest guitar players ever, so I decided to find out my self. Abraxas is packed with amazing grooves and genre-blending fusion, so diverse that it could be considered a magic. The extraordinary musicianship from the guitarwork, keyboards, percussion, etc. Created a one-of-a-kind listening experience. Looking forward to Santana's discography in the future!
A really calming experience, it goes as far as feeling lonely. Pretty similar to "Blue," Joni Mitchell continues putting the pieces of her life stories together and wrote a dozen beautiful yet melancholic songs at times. From fame, relationships, to the burden of being an artist. Joni did an excellent job on her own crafts as a singer-songwriter. I listened to this album outdoors and thought it was a great album to reflect on things in our lives, the good and the bad. Overall, a great ... read more
A really interesting Grunge album. There's quite a lot of genre-blending action going on in the album, mainly Country and Psychedelic Rock. The experience itself is phenomenal, Scott Weiland's vocals are legendary, and every song is well-written, backed by amazing musicianship throughout. Overall, a banger album!
Sonic Youth's last studio album. Honestly, I didn't expect to like this album as much, looking at the band's direction with every release. They brought back the energy from their earlier work and then paired it with the Indie-noisy soundscape. It almost felt like a grunge album. Not to mention the guitar riffs here are amazing, most of them are quite memorable and well-written. Overall, an underrated Sonic Youth album for sure!
An immersive album that makes you feel like exploring a cold, empty planet. Radiohead's experimentation in this album defined the whole era, taking inspiration from Electronic music and classical orchestral composers. This album isn't just another quote-unquote "Great Album," it shows how experimentation in music is flawlessly executed. Overall, an iconic album!
A warm and comforting album to listen to; it feels like strolling around a city in the summer of the 2010s. Although the energy was great, some of the production choices and songwriting didn't really resonate with me that much, such as the use of synths and underwhelming choruses. However, I did enjoy Julian Casablancas's introspective lyricism and most of the guitar riffs throughout the album. Overall, I'd say it's a good album.
Back to David Bowie's Glam Rock era, it's absolutely astonishing to experience his art. Aladdin Sane borrowed inspiration from his previous project, "Ziggy Stardust." And drew some of the music from the American scene at the time. The album is very energetic with the roaring guitars and glamorous vocals, but at a certain moment feels sophisticated with the amazing piano performance and Bowie's change of delivery. Overall, an awesome album!
An adventurous electronic experience with a distinct sound of the 2000s. Mostly centered around the unique production style, it brings a rough, glitchy texture and a melancholic shoegaze sound. Lyrically and conceptually envisioning the sound of the future, it was definitely ahead of its time. Overall, a one-of-a-kind album!
I've been cherry-picking tracks from this album a lot, so I decided to give it a full listen, and it was mind-blowing. I didn't expect the beats to be so powerful, paired together with the sampling, giving it a dark and nocturnal album experience. Beth Gibbons's vocals are sensual and mysterious, a perfect fit for the album's environment. Overall, a spectacular experience, especially at nighttime.
An extraordinary Progressive Rock album. Being one of the classics of the genre, the album didn't have a single empty moment; every single second was included and necessary. The band's musicianship and songwriting are otherworldly, being able to create such an abstract idea and assemble it into a piece of music. Each track is a journey, where we auditorially visualize the experience presented by the band. It's a one-time album experience that left me speechless, definitely ... read more
A depressing album hidden within a glamorous and orchestral sound. Lou Reed's songwriting here is spectacular, narrating a story in such a subtly emotional way. The first half of the album serves as an introduction to the story, but it gradually shifts into a dark, depressing second half. It felt like watching a movie, and I was hooked throughout the whole album. Overall, an amazing album experience!
An interesting experimentation from Sonic Youth, incorporating spoken word and post-rock build-ups to create an avant-garde sound. Often considered as one of the band's worst projects, I actually enjoyed the album. While there are certainly a few flaws with some of the tracks, most of them had a pretty solid structure with an unpredictable direction. Overall, an overlooked album by many, I'd say it's a good experience.
More stripped down than their other work, centered on an atmospheric soundscape. Lyricism was dark and philosophical, similar to Tool's album "10.000 Days." Even though I was expecting more from the drumming in this album, the overall sound is accessible and would be considered an easy listen for a progressive metal album. One thing I find interesting is the eerie guitar riff in the title track, which is unusual for Gojira's sound. Nonetheless, the album is great overall.
Tim Buckley's signature sound comes from merging psychedelia with folk. With a medieval-like arrangement, Tim emphasizes his vocal delivery to be poetic creating one of the most unique-sounding albums I've ever heard. I really like how he uses an unusual approach to folk, with a diverse influence and great songwriting as well. Overall, a great experience!
An impressive-sounding album, but beneath lies a dark and serious meaning in its lyricism. Tool is known for their philosophical and dark style of songwriting. In this album, Maynard expresses his grief and admiration for his deceased mother, notably in "Wings for Marie. Pt. 1" and "10.000 Days (Wings, Pt. 2). The album also contains surreal ideas mentioned in a couple of tracks. An interesting usage of a talk box guitar solos throughout the album, definitely a new addition to ... read more
