I have a lot to say about this one...
I usually love experimental and genre-blending music, so when I heard about Björk and her title of "The Queen of Experimental Pop", I was pretty hyped. Plus, she has some of the highest-rated albums on the site and a very consistent discography, so my expectations were high for her debut. But after diving in and several listens, I have mixed feelings.
Man, these songs drag so much. Most of the time the production is cool and has some great ... read more
This beast got released in 69 but still fucks me in big 26
When I was a child and way before diving seriously into music, my favourite genre was always Hard Rock/Blues Rock for the grittiness of the guitars and the hard-hitting drums. Today, even though I have discovered lots of genres, this still hasn't changed. AC/DC was my thing as a kid, Jack White and The White Stripes revived my love for the genre and now I'm amazed by one of the pioneers of the genre: Led Zeppelin.

I actually like the autotune ! The guitar loop is juicy and the chorus is catchy, a bit long but that's all
This record excels at building up a gothic, dark and depresive atmosphere with the instrumentals, lyrics and vocal performances, though the tracks can be a bit long and rough around the edges.
Would be the worst tracks on No Name but it's still pretty nasty
Great ideas throughout, what brings it down to me is the repetitiveness of the drums and instrumentals in the second half
The production here is most of the time at a bare bones state, but I like it weirdly. The variety of moods, instrumentals and hooks here make me like this more than The Money Store, which was pretty repetitive for me.
The lyrics are once again very rich, with lots of double-entendres, wordplay etc. I haven't dove into all of them because I'm lazy, but from what I've seen (from Come up and get me to Hunger Games) it's great.
However my main issue with this project here is ... read more
I get why it's a classic, but it doesn't entirely resonate with me
When discussing albums with the best production, Wish You Were Here is often brought up, having ~75% of its duration being only instrumentals with no vocals. Moreover, it is considered as one of Pink Floyd's magnum opuses. With production being my favourite aspect of music and also 90% of the time the particular thing that blows my mind in my favourite songs, I was excited for this album. And it was a great ... read more
Same feeling as The College Dropout where I can see why most people think every song is amazing, but for me it's a bit bloated and the soul/RnB sounds become repetitive pretty quickly
Love the quirkiness of this, every song brings something (although it is a bit on the short side at 33 minutes and an intro and interlude, and head shoulder knees and ankles is a bit too much on the theatrical and goofy side)
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be
Nettspend always had to me the image of an obnoxious rapper. Maybe this is true for his previous songs, but for this project it's not the case ! His music actually has some personality with deconstructed flows, some really nice synth lines and even some well done scratching. Some songs have some really good ideas like the intro which has this heavenly atmosphere with group chants, no sleep has a dazzling Hollywood star-esque beat and I like his ... read more
This is a mixtape ??? He was 17 when he made it ???????
I'm sorry but this is so dense that the review will be really short (compared to the amount of things this project delivers). When I want to cover smth properly I want to talk abt every aspect of the thing. However here there's so much going on that I just can't. Just know that Joey has nothing to envy to the greatest like Nas: lyricism, flow, wordplay, rhymes (many multisyllabics, alliterations, assonances), songwriting, ... read more
Denzel's worst project and it's still good !
I had pretty high expectations for this, having loved the fun and bangers of KOTMS and this seeming to take in the same grimy direction. And if the energy is indeed similar, but most of the songs feel like KOTMS leftovers (leftovers of an amazing project, but still leftovers).
Every aspect of this project has taken a slight stepdown from Denzel's previous mixtape. The performances notably, Denzel and TiaCorine really carry every song ... read more
My favourite band is back !
I've been really eager to listen to this album, after a flavorless and safe Cracker Island that was standard mildly enjoyable synth-pop, but reached in no way the creative standard the band set for its past albums. Six months ago, the album gets announced and a few weeks later The Happy Dictator is released, and I immediately knew they were cooking something great. It had that bounciness, personality, catchiness and quirk all of their best songs had. Then for ... read more
I'm not much of an activist, but this makes me want to burn the US flag and organise strikes !
This album is so much fun, Zack and the band scream anger and rebellion and their energy is so contagious ! The riffs, the drums, the bass and guitar solos, the screamed vocals, everything sweats energy.
The tracklist is amazing, there are only 10 songs but they're lenghty enough to be really memorable. The guttery guitars and Zack's explosive "BURN, BURN" on Bombtrack make ... read more
Abbey Road, considered as one of the best albums of all time ! Not for me at least
I gotta agree, this feels like Rock Music©, The Album. It covers lots of sub-genres (Pop-Rock, Soft Rock, Hard Rock, Metal Rock, Blues Rock, Psych Rock) and the songs here are really accessible and finely tuned. I also respect The Beatles, I know how they deeply influenced music (and basically invented rock music), and without them basically all of my favourite artists and albums wouldn't be here (or ... read more
Time for a review of the Bible of hip-hop: Illmatic.
This album is the rap equivalent of Mario in Smash, it's the main character, the face of hip-hop, the type of sounds you hear in your head while you think of rap.
Nas defined forever the codes of the genre with Illmatic, and it ain't hard to tell why. His flows are unpredictable, he can put you in chill state and then jump on you with a bouncy or fast delivery, while having incredible rhyming. Speaking of which, he manages to pull ... read more
Despite the lyrics dealing with heartbreak, this is such a feel-good album.
The acoustic guitars and Stevie Nick's (and other people's) vocals transmitting various emotions such as bravery, vulnerability, passionate love really immerses me in this LP. I feel like I'm around a campfire with the band, and they sing to me about their tragic stories.
Besides the calmer cuts like Oh Daddy and Songbird, the contrast between the sorrow in the lyrics and the get-your-shit-together-mood ... read more
This album sweats personnality, Prince is really charismatic and has a crazy range of sounds in his voice. All of the tracks are amazing, you have the dancy bangers Let's Go Crazy, When Doves Cry and passionate songs like Take Me With U, Purple Rain.
You would think that Prince's presence would overshadow the instrumentals, but they complement eachother really well. Computer Blue has Prince in the background to showcase crazy guitar solos, and Purple Rain is extremely rich in sounds ... read more
