Really boring due to Central Cee's repetitive delivery and some laughably bad moments (Gen Z Luv 👀)
Since this is a short album it gave me motivation to deeply analyse each song (not analyzing interludes), so here it is:
Sun, I Rise: an ode to life and searching a meaning to it (with the metaphor of the sun) while not forgetting the lessons you've been taught (be humble, you can die any day, don't forget religion). It's a cinematic intro with lush production 9/10
Mezzanine Tippin': the beat is cool and a nice agressive switch-up from the calm and heavenly Sun, I Rise, ... read more
This is enjoyable while being on, but not many songs are memorable. The production is often good, the hooks are catchy, 50's delivery is cool and he has some funny punchlines, but a good half of the songs lack one of these elements to be amazing. There's potential for greatness during the full project and I think 50 could've gone harder in the lyrics or sometimes a more diverse delivery for this to be so much better. However, the quality is very consistent and there are a few if ... read more
As a french native he articulates so well, he's the only rapper who I don't need to read his lyrics while listening to his songs
Is a bit tiring near the end during a full listen but has great fucked-up bangers
For long I did not understand the hype for this album. I thought the instrumentals were just okay, and his voice was kinda annoying sometimes. That's because the first half of a record pretty much always defines my listenning experience. And I think that the 1st half is worse than the second one (hot take ?). What's Going On and What's Happening Brother are great, but don't really resonnate with me. Flying High is good and Save The Children too despite the echo voice being ... read more
Part I: filthy synths and bass
Part II: dancy variations on volume and tempo
Part III: oppressing then banging religion-like chants
Part IV: sick-ass guitar to finish things off
It's an EP and it's the same song that changes overtime so it's "less" of an impressive 100 than an LP for example, but still perfect in my heart
Edit: nah this ain't a 100 but still amazing tho
This might be the best album oat to get high on. Production is really etherial and Rocky's delivery is chill asf. The lyrics aren't super deep (sex with the gals and drugs with his crew) but they contribue quite well to the atmosphere he's bringing with his producers. The coherence of this project is also really good, you can feel like the smoke is all around you. The middle section has some bloat with forgettable beats but this mixtape starts and ends off super strong.
This is amazing lmao, what an introduction to Mag Bay I had, the whole thing is banging and Afternoon in Heaven is top 10 in their discography
Has some top-carreers from the duo but it's their project with the less personnality imo
Production is really creative and each song has its own really unique beat, which is why it's way better to me than TMS where some songs can feel samey
Lyrics are very funny and immersive
Even interludes are amazing !
So why isn't this a 10 exactly ?
Blood Creepin, it makes my head hurt so bad and the "OH-WOOOH-UOH-UOOOH" are unseffurable. Moreover it's the fucking closer, it ends the mixtape on such a lowlight 😭
I was expecting to love the whole thing, but the only song I really love is the 1st one
The others are cool, but not amazing either
