Taylor continues to progress to the peak of her pop prowess and really starts to flex some of that singer-songwriter flair on longer, more emotive tracks that separate her from her contemporaries and make her somewhat unique. Her early country influences are barely present (but still seen lmao), but she combines the best parts of it with great pop production and much better hooks all around on this project. I'm interested in documenting her artistic evolution from this point onwards ... read more
This is Taylor’s transitional period between Country and her inevitable Pop stardom. The blend between these genres allows her to sound much more confident and have more freedom in her sound which is nice. However country is still boring for me so there are some misses but there is a definite increase in quality with each release in her early career. I did only listen to the original 13 tracks because that’s the closest to the original vision and sound of Taylor’s Fearless but ... read more
'Taylor Swift' is the debut record we gotta start with but to preface all my future reviews with, I do not like country that much. It's not that there aren't good country songs; Tied Together With a Smile is genuinely great and is the diamond in the rough of this album. BUT, the rest just feels so uninspired bar a few good hooks, the genre itself is just overall not as interesting to listen to. That being said, this is a mid album, there are good songs and there are bad ... read more
Beach House just makes some wonderfully delightful summer music. Synthmania. They just showcase insane mastery over the digital soundscape and make absolutely melancholic and ethereal music. Victoria Legrand's voice does actually help lend so much melody and distinction to their records that it's almost majestic but in a grounded way.
I actually like this Drake album lmao. Drake comes through with some really good house songs that just vibe like crazy. Very lowkey night city vibes that kinda get you into a groove or a mood. However, in classic Drake fashion, he fills half the album with boring records that dont really fit the vibe or are just straight up mid lmao, plus people not allowing him to grow into a new lane and demanding either he go back to his sleepy 20+ track albums with trap beats (though there will be some ... read more
Eminem has always had a problem with finding content in the latter half because of how edgy and violent his early stuff was, and he couldn't really get back into that same space for various reasons. However, he does find a nice middle ground by acknowledging his age and his reputation in this album as his time passes by and he struggles with finding respect and giving respect to those he views as worse or not as hard working as him or other artists. It's basically him struggling to ... read more
My first listen to Giveon, and I think he's not living up to his full potential. HE can deliver great performances if he is backed with a more unique sonic palette and experiments with his flows and vocals. Because there are some gems hidden in the rough here, and I will continue to check his catalogue and see how he progresses artistically.
Randomly came across this band on Spotify and decided to give them a try. This is a pretty good album. Definitely more indie rock, which I haven't really properly delved into, but I'm not complaining. There are some great records on here which Dream, Ivory just pill off very well, the overall consistency of the project is really nice, but also kinda makes all the songs blend together a little too much, so I need to see how they develop further as artists.

I wrote a big ass think piece on this album and it got deleted, fml. Anyways, this album wallows in its instrumental symphonyscape to convey a feeling, to convey emotion through modern and classic instruments. It’s honestly such a novel style of music that keeps it so unbelievably that you never get carried away in the absurdity of some of the musical pieces, simply because it feels so raw. Isaac does a great job at swallowing all that emotion and letting it out in his unique vocal ... read more
Jane Remover comes out swinging and feeling herself as she takes on the rage genre, but inserts her insane mastery over digital instrumentation to make this feel like an overload of production earcandy. The sounds and scapes, and scathing vocals just make this album incredibly enjoyable. She brings in a tinge of different genres, which can mostly be heard in the progressions of the songs rather than the actual sound, taking from pop, EDM, and even rock a little bit. However, some moments just ... read more
Wisp's first album is one of the more accessible shoegaze projects I've heard, and she showcases great vocal mastery and blends beautifully with the lush instrumentation and incorporates a lot more dream pop into her songs while still maintaining a great presence of classic shoegaze guitars. There is the slight concern that she goes more mainstream with her songs but for now shes doing a great keeping that shoegaze sound prominent in her music.
What a nice album lmao. Sadly, fun can't last that long, so I had to remove some fun points, but the fun is definitely on display in the production, which calls back to the futuristic swag era from the 2000s. Longtime genre pioneers like J Futuristic, Roscoe Dash, Young Dro and Skooly come back to flex their mastery on this throwback project. It's just a whole lotta fun.
Surprisingly solid album from the Homixide Gang. I vaguely remember not really caring for the first instalment bar a few banger songs, but here they are way more consistent, experiment with more genres, flows and sounds, and bring out some good production on all fronts. Once again, their strengths are heavily diluted by just the sheer number of songs, and the day they incorporate quality control into their releases is when they stand amongst the rest of Opium as equals.
This is the quintessential gangsta rap album. The Alchemist puts on an all-timer performance, creating some absolute classic beats that will forever be remembered, while Gibbs executes his flows and modes with legendary ability. This is REAL rap, ladies and gentlemen.
This is a great mini release from Tyler. There's some great beats and production on this album but my only gripe is that Tyler seems to relatively experiment less and less with each release. Because he's made really good albums before, my expectations for him just keep growing, and he's gonna continuously need to reinvent himself to be better. While he does have very unique sonic choices, these are sounds we have almost heard on one of his songs here and there, so I just hope ... read more
This album is kinda meh to me, there are a lot of unpolished ideas that needed more refinement and restructuring. So while there is a fair bit of industrial grime and experimentation with instruments, it all comes off kinda dated and mashed together. When it works, you get good tracks like Head Like a Hole and Sin, but when it doesn't, it just exposes Trent's honeslty poor performance at this point in his career. It's a forward-thinking project stuck in the sins of its era and ... read more
Whirr delivers another luscious and upbeat shoegaze project that somehow feels like it's own and not like any other shoegaze. The extreme atmospheric production with the guitars and drums create this huge space of sound that feels so outdoors and summerlike but yet pensive enough to always have that moody Whirr touch to it, largely in part of Loren Rivera's distinctly simple yet soft voice. Whirr shows why they occupy a large part of the shoegaze mainstream with a distinct sound that ... read more
Le Bieber has one great song on this, and there are multiple other song where he tries to utilize the talents of Dijon and other producers to create some sort but he hasn't quite returned to his hitmaking days yet. If he gets clearer direction, better flows and less interludes then he might have something to say to the world.
