Edit: Perhaps I was too harsh out of the gate.
Three years for not even two minutes of song Joji WHAT ARE WE DOING?! I really would have loved this song, and I kind of do, but the track length genuinely pisses me off so much that I'm lowering the score just for that. Remember when Joji could make a song longer than a Tik Tok? I barely can. If this is an outlier on an otherwise longer album I'll excuse it, but with Joji's track record I'm not too confident in that. ... read more
Abilene is dad rock as it's most shameless, and I kind of love it. Between the organ flourishes you'd hear in a church and the VERY midwestern guitar riffs, this song sounds like it came straight from the heartland of America for better or worse. Though, I think it's for the better in this song's case. It sounds like barhopping, long car rides, and a house in state of disrepair.
I was honestly not expecting the sequel album, but I am seated for it.
Finally, with the release of A MURDER OF CROWS, I can say that Mick Jenkins has released an album that's not just partially great, but wholly so. His intellectual lyricism and articulate delivery are both better than ever on here, but neither of these two (what I'd consider to be positive) characteristics are necessarily recent adoptions of Mick's. Really, the reason why I think this project is so exceptional compared to the guy's other work is the added benefit of a ... read more

On a more serious note, while I may not be a huge fan of Cherry On Top both sonically and lyrically, this deluxe still has some really pretty songs packed into it. However, with the exception of Whispers of the Wind..., I don't think there's any new track on here that's quite on the level of the original album's songs. Sincerely: P.S., while not anything ... read more
Elephant In the Room is a pretty serviceable jazz rap album by Mick Jenkins. It's got some good songs on it, but it's nothing incredible. Mick's lyricism is probably the best part of this release, but even that can be inconsistent at points. To be fair though, the whole project is a little bit inconsistent, especially in the second half. There's nothing outright terrible on here besides "real eyes realize real lies," but the weaker bits of this album are just ... read more
jev. sounds spectacular over live instrumentation. I mean, some of these tracks, notably the last two, might actually be better than the originals because of that.
Best Track: THE SAMURAI'S MONOLOGUE. (LIVE)
Weakest Track: FAMOUS. (LIVE)
Songs in the Key of Life is a brilliant and timeless album that has some absolutely life-changing songs packed into it's lengthy and soulful track list. When listening to this project, I can't tell whether Stevie Wonder is a better vocalist or instrumentalist, but I can tell that he's absolutely stellar as both. Besides, it's his charisma and character that's ultimately what makes this release as vitalizing as it is, as they seep into every corner of it from the ... read more
In all honesty, The Slow Rush Remixes & B-Sides is a mixed bag of an EP. Other than the surprisingly good Lil Yachty remix of Breathe Deeper, the remixes are godawful, but the extra songs are genuinely some of the best tracks Kevin Parker has released under the Tame Impala moniker. Seriously, he should be arrested for not putting Patience on the main album.
Best Track: Patience
Weakest Track: One More Year (NTS Version)
LONERWRLD vol. 2 is probably a little weaker than volume one as a whole, but it's still in no way a bad offering. It's got your run-of-the-mill jazz rap jev. tracks along with a couple adventurous cuts that I personally find to be hit-or-miss. Jev.'s heart is still 110% in it, and the beat selection is pretty slick all around, especially in the first half of this EP. Ultimately, if you're already a fan of jev. like I am, you'll be satisfied with LONERWRLD vol. 2. ... read more
Music of The World (21) - Indonesia
So, in this series I'm going to be choosing one album, mixtape, or EP from every country around the world and reviewing it. The projects I choose do NOT represent the entire country, so I apologize if you feel I should have done another, and I'm happy to take suggestions. I know that kind of stuff can be a sensitive topic. These were just the projects I stumbled across. Anyways, without further delay, let's get on with the review!

glaive is an artist that I've been following for a while, but he's never truly wowed me with any project. That is until now, because Y'all is INCREDIBLE. His writing has never been so personal, and his flows along with his singing have never been so ear-wormy. Though, it would be a crime for me to not mention the production, because this outing's beats are just out of this world. The booming drums and bombastic synths are nothing but electrifying and exhilarating. ... read more
