Architects - All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
100

A beautiful monument to the memory of those lost forever yet lost together. T//S

Never have I become so attached to an album through the shared pain of unequivocal loss. (even years on from my first listen)
Music is beautiful, heartbreaking, crushing, uplifting and the glue that joins millions in a shared the beauty of both victory and loss.

'All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us' Is a Victorious Swan-song in the seismic loss of Tom Searle, every single song has so much emotion poured into ... read more

MIRAR - Ascension
78

Pushing the envelope of maximalism in the modern metal scene perfectly developing the sounds of metal, baroque, thall tied into an almost dubstep esque sonic delivery.
This is one of those albums and sounds that people deep in the metal scene will find a non metal friend, ask them, 'Hey give this a listen' to watch them react like a small victorian child seeing a smartphone for the first time as they go pale to the sound of sheer baroque aggression.

There is a sense of accessibility ... read more

Death Grips - Exmilitary

Thankyou Mr Grips.

I originally wrote somewhat of a joke review for this in reflection of how serious the album takes itself and how serious the crowd takes the music.

Ironically for something so intentionally chaotic, messy and even unrefined in design, this album is such a fun listening experience and a breath of fresh air from some of the clinical, pristine white walled - sterile soundscapes of the modern era of production.

the only real sadness is that this isn't more accessible in ... read more

DON BROCO - Amazing Things
90

Do I have to bodyslam everybody in the room just prove a point?

Thankfully not seen as the other reviews speak for themselves.
Beautiful, eclectic, vibrant, hilarious with masterfully written messages woven throughout from doing shit for other people always Bad 4 Your health to swimwear season quite unique songs in creation with room for fun songs like Endorphins and Bruce Willis.

Don Broco have perfectly proved that they are capable of Amazing Things.
That Key change in one true prince is ... read more

Slash - 4

I don't understand the hype on the return. I love the artists behind the work and have seen them live several times already. Maybe its me and my taste in music but this just feels uninspired, by the numbers and incredibly safe, like taking risks was something Gibson executives where too scared to push for. That's what this album leaves me feeling, I've done a few track by track album listenings and I really struggle with recollecting any memorable riff, solos, lyrics, anything ... read more

Slash - World On Fire
72

This in my opinion, joint with apocalyptic love is the best solo work of Slash's solo career. my first ever first self discovered obsession along side Alter bridge. these Albums do suffer from a bit of top Down syndrome where some songs definitely feel like filler and there's incredible works followed by serviceable works. WoF definitely encapsulated that hard rock era that Guns and Roses dominated in the 90's but with a bit more flash and a vocalist who can hold their pitch in a ... read more

Rain City Drive - Things Are Different Now
78

To Follow this band prior to their name change, as they changed to Rain City Drive announcing it in the Rainy city of Manchester (how apt). I've been cautious as to the development of this band. an incredibly talented proven writers and one of the best to write post hardcore style of music. I was unfortunately underwhelmed with their Self titled album with their track 'psycho' being their stand out of that time.

'To Better Days' is still one of the most incredible ... read more

Beartooth - The Surface

What a breath of fresh air.
Metal for the longest time has been an outlet for aggression, death despair and yet seldom been seen in such a positive uplifting light. Beartooth really perfected what a feel good happy uplifting metal album should feel like. The surface feels like the epitome of a 'summer album' the messaging and upbeat major tonality. Watching the growth and subsequent Phoenix from the ashes style rebirth for Caleb is beautiful and infectious. Though heavily ... read more

Sleep Token - Take Me Back to Eden

This would be highest rated for me and I've personally connected to this album following the band closely since 2019. Watching the reviews tank post TheNeedledrop shows how vapid ratings can be and how they can be swayed. Talking about Clean and sterile the mix is, how eclectic and poorly paced the album is for the most part I disagree and think many factors have unfairly chastised the album reviews for TMBTE.

It is an incredibly polished mix but is it so wrong to push for a clear, punchy ... read more

Northlane - Alien
95

An absolute masterpiece of electronic industrial Metalcore and a jewel in the release year of 2019.

This album holds many an accolade to my personal listenership as I still hold firm to this day that this album contains the best break down in all of music, no hyperbole, no over exaggeration. The dark and twisted fabric weaved throughout the electronic, pulsing, face melting guitar tones serve to be nothing short of a spectacle.

Alien is a shining example of why I'm still so deeply in ... read more

On Sleep Token - Even in Arcadia
"EIA is definitely more experimental and fun, I feel like EIA Track listing is abit all over the place, like the title track definitely should have been track one. TMBTE is more consistent but Arcadia has larger peaks, but that could also be partly recency bias. I'm confident EIA is going age incredibly well though."
