Distorted Sound
Whilst a couple of the songs don’t quite hit all the right notes, the rest of the album is masterful. It combines older sounds with newer ones to create a record that will satisfy old and new fans.

‘The Surface’ could’ve been Beartooth’s crowning achievement, yet its reluctance to break formation keeps them steady in second place for now.

The impression these songs make is instant, but scratch beneath the surface, and there’s so much more to love about the heart, hurt and craft that has gone into this album.

The Surface maintains the same hard-hitting, heavy sound that Beartooth is known for, but delivers a little different message this time lyrically.

It's an engaging album that takes some twists and turns. The listener doesn't really know what to expect from song to song, which makes for a dynamic listen.

I was never a fan of Beartooth, I especially found their last album to be extremely mediocre to the point that I wasn't interested in even finishing it. The lead single to this album "Riptide" though, is actually my all-time favorite Beartooth song. I absolutely love that one. I wasn't really crazy about the other singles, but I was still hoping for something good on "The Surface".

And well... this album surprised me. I wasn't expecting to like it, I was actually kind of ... read more

Seeing a lot of these reviews and the average rating I was a bit worried when coming to this album.

Beartooth is not one of my favorite band and I never really was into their music. However, I reckon that they have been on the metalcore seen for quite a while now and have a bit of a fanbase, and this album was thus quite a must-listen for me as I try to keep myself updated on the -core scene.

This is the 5th LP of the punk hardcore/metalcore american band and in fact it was not that bad. ... read more

yeah... I don't think this was the best way to start my first listen to Beartooth.

I really haven't listen to any Beartooth before this album came out. I mean, I've heard about them before and how amazing they are, but I didn't really bother to listen to them for some reason. So when this album came out, I was excited to see the kind of talent they have that I never have seen before. This was gonna be my first time hearing everyone's beloved Modern metalcore band and I knew it was gonna be all ... read more

The tracklist is top heavy, which I get like put your best tracks first, but it does make every track after Doubt Me kinda like "okay let's wrap it up"

The Better Me was a lot of fun though. Listen to the title track and that. I kinda liked the occasional dives into country across the album, it caught me off guard at first hearing The Surface on the I Was A... Live performance (which I think is better than the studio version but that's just me) but I welcome that crisp ... read more

Pretty decent fun uplifting metal, can definitely be repetitive but it still pretty decent

This album is pretty good if you don't have a little bitch in your ear saying it sucks. Caleb is happy on this album and still ripping out fun riffs while doing so. My only real gripe with te album is that the same guitar tone gets a little old and some riffs do sound similair. But there's still enough variaton in the latter half with songs like "Sunshine" and "Look the Other Way" to make up for it. At least this album doesn't sound like most other slop of the ... read more
