This doesn’t come near to the raw, aggressive sound of their debut, but it does make its way to a more refined sound than what came from their sophomore record.
The sharp, processed sonics and growled vocals of 2014’s Disgusting and 2016’s Aggressive are mostly gone, replaced by a more organic, radio-ready sound.
While this is a step up from the prior album, it definitely has some major flaws. For one, it's not a consistent listen and it definitely wants to veer into multiple directions. There's also "Believe", which is probably the band's worst track thus far. I like songs and ideas from this album in parts, but not as a whole listen.
A marked improvement over their last effort. They are trending towards their more poppier sound but on this project it isn't plagued by the same filler issues, the same thin and empty production and over the top victimhood machismo 'Aggresive' was plagued with. They stick to catchy melodies supplementing them with simple but effective killer riffs. It is a recipe for a good to great album
There are pretty much no bad songs, all the riffs are awesome, the choruses get lodged in your head, there's plenty of sick breakdowns to go around...in other words, it's new school punk rock at it's best. Disgusting might be Beartooth's masterwork, but dammit if this doesn't come awfully close. Well fucking done, boys.
Favorite tracks: Fire, Disease, and Bad Listener
The first album where Beartooth really found their sound. Disease, You Never Know, Bad Listener, and Afterall are the highs, though the rest of the album doesn't lag too far behind, so overall a really enjoyable album in full.
Once again Beartooth spread lies because there are no teeth or bears on this album cover, instead we have a snake which both biologically and factually is not a bear.
Anyway, Disease is one of those copium albums that is gonna hit you right in the feels. This was written during Caleb's lowest moments so you get the impression. And it is filled and I mean FILLED with bangers - the title track, Bad Listener, You Never Know, Manipulation, Used and Abused...you name it.
