Background noise.
Not a huge Rag'n'bone fan but it seems like he has some potential to have a good album. Well...I got to track 6 before my optimism waned. I don't have a ton to say here, this just hit me as a mediocre album. I do like the bluesy track Chokehold, but nothing else stood out. There's nothing overtly wrong, It's just...bland.
This is an odd album for me because each song consistently hits and misses for me after a couple listens. There are certain musical passages that are gorgeous and make me feel like I'm floating over mountains in Patagonia. But other parts don't hit as much and blend into the background. It's sort of tough to distinguish between songs as well, but I think I like Vivimos Lejos, El dia de las flores and Vendra la calma the best.

I'm bored, the album.
This band continues to underwhelm with every release. Aside from the fact that this isn't a real EP, I didn't find the 'new' songs on here to be very engaging. The production is muddy as hell. Puzzler is not puzzling in the slightest, it just sucks. NEW! Christianity starts with a strong blast beat but turns into a slogging shoegazy track that goes nowhere. Martyr Song was the highlight of the album for me, this chaotic track is engaging and ... read more
Joy Oladokun released a strong album full of earnest and personal songs about struggles and strengths of life as a burgeoning singer-songwriter. This type of album is a bit out of my comfort zone but I was struck at how genuine each song sounds. I don't know how to properly explain it but the production, mixing, vocals and lyrics work well to create an intimate setting for songs with deep personal meaning to Joy Oladokun.
Definitely worth a listen.
HIghlights: Am I?, Drugs, Hollywood
Fun but mostly forgettable.
Memory of a Day is composed of 12 mostly mid-tempo synth-driven rock tracks. The album has some clear strengths but mostly feels like it's missing some pieces that would make it more cohesive. Highlights for me were Attaway, which builds momentum for a nice payoff, and Happy Again, which brings high energy to disrupt the monotony. My prevalent reaction to most songs was mild disappointment. Seemed like each track started strong but fell flat in the chorus, or ... read more
Solid debut LP comprised of content from two EPs. Smooth vocals and dreamy post-rock combine to bring a light and adieu airy vibe to each song.
The album as a whole is a bit repetitive and songs blend into one another, but not in a good way. The album feels a bit one dimensional. Still, the positives outweigh the negatives. This band has real potential.
Like: La Noche, El Fin del Mundo, El Proximo Verano, El Incendio
Meh: Las Flores, La Distancia, Hacia los Bosques, Desvelo
Dislike: None
Solid EP. I feel like I'm floating on a cloud.
Favorite tracks: El Proximo Verano and El Incendio.
I'm really struggling with this album. I feel like the symphonic metal sub genre is sort of played out. I can't hear the innovation in here, it sounds quite generic to me.
Bro country hitmaker template:
1. Find a country stereotype.
2. Hire team of ghost writers to exploit said stereotype.
3. Back each track with lazy, soulless steel guitars and rough and generic rock.
4. Market shitty product through big country machine.
5. Contact label image group to obtain new, sparkly cowboy boots.
Rinse, repeat.
Encuentros is a sleeper AOTY candidate. Wait... hear me out.
OK, so nothing is realistically going to beat Magdalena Bay but Encuentros seems to be falling under the radar, and that's a shame. This album has so many strengths, mixing elements of flamenco, norteño, ranchera, raggaeton, and rock with superior modern production and mixing to create an album that immediately sounds timeless and likely to have some staying power if it gains any traction.
Music: is exceptional. Every ... read more
Ohh wow. I wasn't expecting such a visceral reaction to this album. Gotta listen to my gut, like walking down the wrong alley, just turn around and head in the other direction. Only in this case it's not out of fear but more mild disgust and cringe.
Dollar store CSNY? Not for me.
Below the waste but above the noise.
I liked what I heared from goat girl on the first part of the album. Kinda floaty vocals with a dissonance to the music that reminds me a bit of early grunge and 90s alt rock. Ride around is a great song. The punchy bass and percussion pairs well with the vocal tone. Maybe the best song on the album. The album continues into 90s alt rock territory on words fell out and play it down. I like the dreamy vocals on these tracks.
But the real drawback with ... read more

OK, enough fucking around. This album is fantastic but it took me 3 or 4 listens before I really caught the vibe. Since then, holy shit, I've been loving it.
This is my first Goat experience. I am now a Goat fan. The mix of Anatolian rock and the buzzy desert guitar sounds transcendent while the mix of folk elements provide structure for each song on the album. And the keys...perfectly placed. The ... read more
Foxing's Foxingest album yet.
I'm not gonna lie, they had me for the first 3 quarters.
I had a positive first impression, loved the angry screamy parts, funky parts, and Never-Ending Story Giorgio Morodor style synth pop. Speaking of which, Greyhound is a powerhouse song, it perfectly encapsulates the highlights of this album. If you only listen to one song from this album, I highly recommend Greyhound.
I really like the whole stretch from Secret Historu through Gratitude. In ... read more
π₯± I like Kenny Wayne Shepherd but this is a snoozer of an album.
I suggest sticking to the older albums. This one is pretty soulless, especially for a blues album.
Old school rock with some serious production value.
Definitely Myles Kennedy's best solo album. It's not highly innovative, in fact the sound is probably 10 years out of date. However, this is one of the most polished and well-produced rock albums I've heard this year. It's an easy album to get into... not much beyond the surface but the surface is interesting enough here. Behind the Veil is my personal favorite. Has a bit of Little Wing flare at the beginning.

Harmony is treading into Kesha fan fiction territory a bit too much on this album. I feel like this is a major step down from the Dystopia Girl EP.
Aside from that, the album loses steam after the third song and peters out toward the end. She probably had enough for a solid EP, but not sure an LP was warranted yet.
Quirky album that is surprisingly solid.
I like the direction the Linda Lindas are headed. The retro punk feel suits them and No Obligation delivers. The back half album is a bit redundant after a couple spins, but suitable for background music.
Beautiful and intricate album.
Pleroma is one of my favorites is the year and criminally under the radar. I think it is better than blood incantation's new album, which I'm sure will get all the press for prog death metal at the end of the year. The disparate music styles are fused so well such is no easy feat to transition between chamber folk and death metal.
Drumming is nothing short of great. Album is fantastic. Must listen!
This is peak 2024 sludge mixed with some grunge straight from the 90s.
Aggressively painful album in all the right ways. aka heavy as hell.
I was expecting the sludge metal, but the mix of punk influences is reminiscent of 90s grunge and that was a surprise. I'm drawing so many comparisons to Nirvana in the apathetic desperation of the lyrics and vocal delivery, and sludgy instrumentals, with other notable comparisons to AIC and Soundgarden.
There is so much to like here. There is so ... read more
