Best Offspring album since Ixnay...yes, better than Americana.
I'm so happy. I'm always going to listen to a new Offspring album but it's become a masochistic experience (e.g. Let the Bad Times Roll). Not so with Supercharged. What can I say, it's an energetic, fun album front to back with only one or two stumbles.
... and it's a perfect length - 10 songs, 32 minutes is just about my limit for the Offspring.

The hallmark album of a band searching for their signature sound.
Let's see... death metal, nu metal, trap, alternative metal, prog... what else is in here? The drummer is a beast, and was the clear highlight of the album. The album starts strong but falls off pretty quickly. I think I prefer Oceans when they're not trying to sound like Linkin Park (e.g. Let It Burn)

Motley Crue solidified themselves as a state fair band.
I was at Motley Crue's "The End" final show on New Years Eve, 2015 at the Staples Center in LA. It was a fitting finale to the band that was already well passed their prime and promised that they wouldn't stick around long enough to become irrelevant. I really wish they would've stuck to that promise

Fun album, especially in the second half.
Second half really carries this album. Ripples and Big Time are highlights. 4D is good. In not as big of fan of the slower jams aside from I Fell into a Piano, but to each their own.
Like: Side Quest, Ripples, Big Time, I Fell into a Piano, 4D.
Meh: Halfway Where, Together Alone, Cruise Control, Phototropic, A Planet Upside Down, Triangular Girl, Feed the Meter, Mid City

I don't hate this. Musically and lyrically it's a bit all over the place but if they can tighten up their sound I think these guys could put out a solid album.
As it stands, I think the ultra-processed music detracts from the lyrical content more than emphasizes it. I like No Hostages, feels a bit like RATM but with worse music. The hardcore section in $wing is good, honestly if they cut out the more processed Linkin park sound and stuck to mixing rap and hardcore I think they would ... read more
Technically amazing but not totally cohesive.
This is a challenge to rate. I'm supposed to love this. My music history to this point checks so many boxes that this album checks:
Pink Floyd ✅️
Death metal ✅️
Black metal that has clear production ✅️
Folk metal ✅️
Proggy spacey stuff ✅️
The primary issue for me is that the album just can't pull off all these transitions cleanly. Some sections sound more like several music interludes spliced together. ... read more
I bet this is amazing to hear live.
I could see how someone could love this, but that person isn't me. There's not enough to dig into while actively listening and it's a bit grating for background music. I have to admit that I was counting down the minutes until each song ended. Just not my speed.
Pet Sounds is a legendary album. No sense in waxing poetic on this, we all know this is a classic. Since this is AOTY, I'll only comment on a couple things that put this into outstanding tier. The album is more than the sum of it's parts. It is equally paris compelling and cohesive, and should be listened to actively from front to back to get the full experience. Sure, there are a number of legendary singles but interestingly they blend perfectly into the album on a complete listen. I ... read more
Hit and miss for me.
I found Cutouts to be kind of mediocre. It's tough to analyze an album that I found most often to be boring, but I tried to figure out why. Basically any time this band slows down to a snail's pace (like the first two tracks) I can't help but zone out. It's a physical reaction to the slow drumming (dislike) paired with Thom Yorke's slow as molasses vocal delivery. On the other hand, the higher energy songs like Zero Sum and Eye's and Mouth are ... read more
I ain't afraid of no banjo music.
I saw these guys open for Zakk Wylde earlier this year and they brought a shit ton of energy to the floor. Never thought I would see people moshing to banjos. Anyway, I thought this was a novelty act even after I saw them but over the course of the year they've grown on me as a legit band. Yeah, it's a little ham-fisted at times but I'm here for it. The Native Howl are comparable to The Dead South in some respects but I actually think I ... read more
For the first 5 songs I wanted to listen to this album all day long, but the last 3 songs tank pretty hard, so hard in fact that they kind of suck the innovation out of the first half of the album. It's unfortunate because the first 5 songs (especially the first 3) are nearly perfect. I'll give it a few extra points for having fantastic production. The mix is crystal clear.

I'm not a Black Midi fan so this is my first experience with Geordie Greep. Not to say I have anything against Black Midi, just not enough time in the day. After the first song I was ready to call BS on the high rating but glad I stuck around. I don't think I was prepared for the frenetic pace of the first track so it caught me a bit off guard. The album picked up immediately with Terra. I loved the bossa nova feel of this song (and most of the rest of the album). The lyrics and vocal ... read more
This is a fun album. Billy Strings successfully released a perfect roadtrip album. It's a little long, but so are road trips. This isn't the most innovative of the Billy Strings discography, but it is a solid bluegrass album with some old school outlaw country and psychedelic influences mixed in here and there. Stand out songs to me were Gild the Lily, Stratosphere Blues/I Believe in You, and Catch and Release.
Mid hardcore/sludge metal album. Definitely would be fun to see these guys live, I'm sure these songs hit so much harder in person. The instrumentals are just meh. I like the vocals. Normally it is opposite for bands like this. The music feels so pedestrian...I don't know, I just want to listen to Pantera after about a song's worth of Kublai Khan TX.
The Interrupters if they had a Borderline Personality Disorder
I gave this an 85 after first listen. I was bamboozled a bit a few songs that really dug in, but after some time away I came back and the album just didn't hit the same. I definitely like The Crawlers and still like this album, but I see the flaws in the album. I do believe this is a band that is capable of pretty great things in the future, will keep an eye out.

Justice Will Shine On is a gem. I also like Cartoon Buyer. Rest of the album is OK but no other standouts.
Top-loaded album that becomes a bit formulaic after the first half.
Been trying to get into Origami Angel for a while but they always came off a bit too saccharine sweet in my attempts to listen to previous albums, leaning more into boy band territory and less into punk and metal. So with the release of Feeling Not Found I decided to commit to listening to the full album right after release. Right away I was impressed with the first two (real) songs, Dirty Mirror Selfie and Where Blue Light ... read more
Agreed with the other reviewers on this band's ability to write catchy choruses. The instrumentals are a bit generic. This will probably fade after a few listens, or the earworms will take permanent residence and I'll come back to write more...
