A deeply moving and unsettling exploration of artistic burnout and slavery to creativity.
Vespertines younger but more mature sister
While many of Björks albums deal with themes of intimacy, care, love, and all the nice things, this record was her at her most mature, and emotionally devastated after her breakup with Mathew Barney. Vulnicura feels quite similar to Vespertine, with uses of violin and her signature microbeats, incredibly descriptive lyrics and many textures, and immense emotional weight. But while Vespertine cradles with you with its comfort and simplicity, ... read more

Happy 10th to this criminally underrated project
This project hits so much harder than I remembered. It's sits at in interesting point in Kendrick's discography, being released as a compilation of songs that were made during the creation of what would one of the best musical works of all time, To Pimp A Butterfly, and you can really tell.
To me this project plays out like a live performance over a 34 minute runtime. The raw, demo-style sound really garners ... read more
Im not a crier but this got me pretty damn close. I don't really know what I was expecting going into this, but it's very bewildering with how noisy and loud it is, but all the instruments come together to make something quite beautiful. And the lyrics are nothing short of devastating
After hearing this album, I really consider Brent one of the better R&B talents of the 2020s. He's maintained an incrediblely consistent discography, with a pretty small amount of mediocre songs. He's really in his bag again with Icon, and sticks to his tried and true formula of aux-approved songs with buttery vocals, smooth, moody, and fun production delivered in a toxic-romantic fashion. The production here is especially nostalgic, with songs like "other side." and ... read more
My god what a hidden gem this album is. Some of the most funky, creative, technically impressive hip hop that I've ever heard. This album never lets up for one second, and from start to finish Gift of Gab spits like a machine gun, hitting you with some of the most nerdy, and spiritually uplifting lyricism the genre has to offer, in an eloquent fashion. I absolutely love the jazzy production as well. I usually dont cover album covers, but I mean this is at *least* in the top 10 for coolest ... read more
One of Coles better albums, for sure. Great storytelling per usual, and solid production. But it kinda feels like he takes the safe route here for a retirement album, just standard issue J. Cole. A nice way to end off a storied rap career. Also, where are all the features?
DISC 1- 86/100
DISC 2- 83/100
This is the most broken sounding album I've heard, but in the best way possible. Here, the duo are very much finding themselves still picking up and putting back together the broken pieces left by Steppas death. The way this album paces itself makes me feel like im processing all the stages of grief, beginning with denial in the first song, and ending off very powerfully with acceptance in the final song. Absolutely beautiful and bittersweet experience, and nothing like ive ever heard.
At first listen, this is another quality album from Rocky, but not gonna lie I was expecting so much more, and Dont Be Dumb leaves me still feeling hungry after an 8 year hiatus.
While Rocky did promise a blend of multiple genres throughout this project, I feel he didn't really lean into them as much as he should've. The only songs where he fully dives into a certain genre would be Punk Rocky and Robbery, which both are some of the strongest songs on here. The more trap oriented ... read more
My only gripe with this is that the production gets pretty repetitive, F1lthy couldve provided way better beats. But the darker tracks like Miss Me, Owe Me, or Over have this amazing spacey and haunting vibe. Luckis definitely at his peak songwriting here too with some pretty deep subject matter
Man, 2015 was a hell of a year for hip-hop. You had To Pimp a Butterfly, THE greatest rap album probably ever, Rocky dropped his magnum opus with AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP, and the trap subgenre was thriving with projects like Rodeo, Barter 6, and DS2.... and then you had Lupe Fiasco's "Tetsuo and Youth", which comparatively kinda flew under the radar. This was Lupe's final album with Atlantic Records, which ended a pretty messy relationship. However, this would be the greatest ... read more
ROCKY STILL GOT IT MAN 🥹 I wasn't expecting this kind of sound from him, but its a very welcome surprise. Never doubt Rocky when he tries to do something different. It's a pretty similar vibe to Sundress, but even more upbeat. I wont be surprised nor disappointed if its what the vibe of DBD will be
(94->98)
I had to spin this again in anticipation for Dont Be Dumb, and I can say with 100% certainty that this is Rocky's best album by far. I've always appreciated that Rocky has always tried to achieve a different soundscape with each project he puts out, whether it be a cloud rap masterclass with Live Love, or being at his most unorthodox so far with Testing. But on this project, he was able to fully master the forward-thinking, trippy, psychedelic sound that I mostly ... read more
Behold, my favorite trap mixtape of all time. If someone were to ask me to define Young Thug as an artist, this would be the project I point them too. This is peak Young Thug, the purest display of his ideas, uniqueness, and his artistry. Every track to me somewhat symbolizes the figure they're named after, some examples being Floyd Mayweather, which sounds like the perfect background track to a training montage in a boxing film, or Future Swag, which sounds like something straight off an ... read more
This album was a lot to digest, so it'll be difficult to put into words. While im familiar with some of Boldy's work, namely the phenomenal Price Of Tea In China (which ill review soon), a few songs from his other Alchemist collabs, and his features on other Griselda members songs, I never really considered him to be one of my favorite members from the label. While he is an incredibly talented lyricist, his delivery always came off as very hazy and hard to follow.
But this album ... read more
2nd Death Grips project ✅
Very abrasive but more catchy than money store
2nd half goes way harder than the 1st half
Eh is very fun underrated track
While this album is amazing, I do agree with many others that Alcs beatmaking is getting slightly stale, many of the tracks here feel very same same. It doesnt only apply to this project too, I felt Alfredo 2 lacked a lot of distinction among the beats, which why I think Alfredo is much better. Still though, something about the production here feels very cold and distant yet weirdly comforting, almost like an old fuzzy memory youre viewing through an old box television while it snows outside. ... read more
