Favorite Tracks (every song I gave a 11/10):
Prison Song, Deer Dance, Chop Suey!, Forest, Toxicity, Aerials
I evidently liked this more than most people. This album felt similar to the Ariana Grande album from the beginning of the year where it's just fine. There are a few high points, but overall it's an average pop album with not too much notable about it, but nothing particularly bad. When compared to some of the other work that has been put out by Blackpink and its members, this was a step up.
Favorite Tracks: APT, drinks or coffee, call it the end
I love the direction that the new songs on this version goes for. Obsessed may genuinely be Olivia's best song so far. The 3 folk-esque songs also felt a lot more impactful than her normal slow songs, and I hope that it's a direction she chooses to stick with in her future projects.
New songs score: 88
New songs + old songs: 84
Some parts are great, while others I'm more lukewarm on. Compared to IGOR (the only other project I've heard from Tyler), this isn't as cohesive of an album. That being said, you can tell that Tyler is being very personal throughout the album, and maybe that makes it more messy than a fully structured concept-album such as IGOR.
Favorite Tracks: Darling I, Rah Tah Tah, Like Him
Interesting collab project. Haven't really listened to much of Haru Nemuri's newer stuff, even though her most recent album has been on my 'to listen' list for like 2 years. There's a really interesting mix of sound in this EP, with songs like Bad Thing sounding like a mid-2000s Scene Kid's wet dream, Get Well Soon going for a Parannoul-esque wall-of-sound type of shoegaze, and the first 3 songs sounding like they came from last year's 'underscores' ... read more
This was my most anticipated album of 2024. I enjoyed it a lot, it sounds great and nothing was boring. However, I do see some issues that could appear more in the future that are starting in this album. With julie signing with Atlantic, the sound of this project has ended up being a lot more polished than their earlier works. Now I’m not one to claim that a band is inauthentic or a sellout by signing with a major label. HOWEVER, there is just a very noticeable difference in the sound ... read more
Listened to this with a friend last night and was pleasantly surprised. So far the most consistent album to come out this year. Liked this a lot more than Beatopia, even if I liked some of Beatopia's songs a bit more than the songs from this project. Currently my 2024 AOTY.
Favorite Tracks: Take A Bite, California, Beaches
light is better than every song on Summer Flows, but every song on Summer Flows is better than the rest of this EP
Really short, but everything on here is great. Its really chill while still being stimulating. Also, Daniel's voice is really smooth o-o
Everything in this EP is solid... that's pretty much the main positive that I can say. Aniplex has realized that they have struck gold with the Bocchi The Rock IP and are now going to milk it with the J-rock equivalent of white bread. Everything about this music is just fine, its easily listenable and doesn't do anything offensive to my ears. However, this makes a lot of the music feel a bit bland. There is nothing extraordinary like a 'Guitar, Loneliness and Blue Planet' or ... read more
It's not everyday that a 15 song album turns out to not be bloated. The wide range of pop sounds are really interesting and engaging. Even with the songs that I was more iffy about, they still were able to keep me entertained while listening. So far the best album by a mainstream artist I've heard from this year.
Favorite Tracks: Girl so confusing, Sympathy is a knife, Apple
I was actually looking forward to this project a decent amount. I really enjoyed Espresso, and Please Please Please was at least semi-interesting. However the final product turned out to be really bland. Short n' Sweet is the boiled chicken of music, it does its job but just ends up being immensely boring.
Favorite Tracks: Espresso, Sharpest Tool
I'm tired of whatever One Ok Rock has been doing for the past 7(?) years. Their last album from '22 was a slight improvement however this song isn't doing them any favors. We're back to the issues of the Eye of the Storm era. These sappy lyrics are killing me, it just feels so fake. I'll keep listening to whatever they put out in the future, but I'm no longer going to be delusional enough to expect any of their music to be good.
I'm not a huge fan of this 'chill pop' style that AKMU provides in love episode. It doesn't bring much substance to the table and the music just kind of happens without anything noteworthy taking place. Fry's Dream does bop tho
