Long Live by The Chariot is my favorite album of all time and it’s honestly not even close. Very dissonant chugs that syncopate with the vocals in an incredibly satisfying way with a pretty damn crazy guitar tone. The vocals towards the end also get pretty raw, something about when I can hear metal or hardcore vocalists taking breaths between screams triggers the caveman side of my brain.
I love seeing other bands pay tribute to my fav of all time, and this band did a pretty decent job! There are some small differences from the original track that make this worth giving a listen if you are a fan of The Chariot. This single encouraged me to check out some of the other work from this band, and I think their original songs are even better! I was worried how Mastodon would carry on without him but they've proven that while he was an integral part of the group, they can manage to carry on and write some awesome metal.
Fuck this band. Their guitarist was a pedophile and there is evidence that all of the members knew about this years ago but did nothing until it came out this week. Their response to these allegations? Briefly mentioning that he left the band before writing on about how they would continue touring and asking for people to pay to see their shows. I like a variety of music, but my top genres are hardcore, metal, and jazz. I love metalcore especially if it's dissonant dogshit. Don't take my ratings too seriously I think all artists deserve respect for putting stuff out there and in the end these are just numbers on a website.
