Cher's 'Foxy Lady', a critically volcanoed album, drowned in lava and burned like most of her unapreciated albums. Ratings from critics mostly replicate 1970s attitudes ... read more
An almost perfect New Wave album, and another addition to the euphoric chaos that was the punk oriented musical scene of 1978. The Cars debut album is a fantastic example of heavy production and sentimentaly composed music and lyrics, there are so many qualaty parts that add to the structure of this album, such as highlights like Just What I Needed, Don't Cha Stop, Your All I've Got Tonight. Even though the production of the album could be seen as out-dated and very much of its time, ... read more
There are no words to describe the pure, ear-hooking fiasco that is The Clashes genre defining album 'London Calling'. Highlights of the work are Guns Of Brixton, Clampdown, Death Or Glory and Lovers Rock. All songs on the album are a good choice for a listen, any song could be picked at random from the tracklist and trust, a fusion of reggae, punk and ska will brighten your brain, inviting you into an expirience of London through the bands eyes. The lyrical themes of the album are ... read more
This is HOW to kick-start one of the most groundbreaking partnerships in rock music. Heart's iconic 'Dreamboat Annie' is a masterpiece made up of folk-rock musical blessings. It delves into plenty of entertaining and provocative lyrical ideas like female sexuality, complex and intricate relationships, and childhood expierience. The entire album contains well thought through lyrics, there is not one song that fails this criteria. The highlights of the album are Dreamboat Annie, ... read more
Possibly the best punk record of all time, Patti Smiths 'Horses' blurs the lines between various artistic mediums including rock, poetry and features many mind stroking themes of extreme political relevance like poverty, misogyny and sexual assault. Highlights from 'Horses' are the title track, Gloria and Free Money. This album is highly recommended as a work that helped pioneer the music of the punk subculture and introduced the idea of mixing music and poetry as a ... read more
A fabulous expression of unexpectedly magical music, paying homage to the black and lgbt+ artists that pioneered it.
Ice Spice's debut album has long been overtly anticipated throughout the music scene. Many expected to react with repulsion, many with shock and many with humour. All three of these possible criteria where proven to be correct predictions by Ice Spice and her new album, Y2K!, the name being an obvious attempt to continue the nostalgic, 'tern of the mallenia' aesthetic that she and her teem continue to brand her with. The album, generally is a let down, but for most listeners this ... read more
A stunningly authentic peice of art, portraying the emotional downfall of the troubled, love-struck narrator in a way more raw and powerful than most artists. Amy Winehouse was the best singer-songwriter of her decade, with a marvoulous unique voice and pure soul in every note she sings.
A cheeky record that keeps listeners on the edge of there seet at every chop and change fetured during this 41 minutes of supreme dance music, a genre that Charli xcx is slowly reviving to it's former glory.
Rock legend, David Bowie, dabbles in the New Wave sound as it takes over the mainstream music scene, and my, has he done well!! From the start to the finishing track, this almost perfect dance record is filled with quirky riffs, fabulous production, clever melodies and entertaining lyrics. Highlights from the album would be the opening track, the title track and Criminal World. The production of the whole album is genius and a blueprint for future music makers. This can be seen, exacuted ... read more
Eminems new effort is a half well-done mix of decent songs with playful, fun lyrics and good production. Highlights of the album have to be the opening track, Brand New Dance and Antichrist. The feature from JID was a good move, as he carries most of the song himself with a well-written and performed verse at the beggining of his track. Unfortunatly, the same could not be said for Bad One feature White Gold, who honestly ruins what was a decent song with a tedious auto-tune plauged chorus. The ... read more
A charming and experimental peice of work which features many quirky songs like Blondie's iconic single Rapture, featuring complex production and pretty, but sometimes nonsensical lyrics, and of course fabulous vocals from punk icon Debbie Harry.
Donna Summers 'Bad Girls' is the ultimate Disco album. It sums up the feel good, freeing energy of the iconic subculture into an hour of constant eargasm after eargasm. Classics like Bad Girls and Dim All The Lights are highlights of the album, while lesser known tracks like Sunset People and Our Love give a euphoria inducing experience. The themes of the album show a parallel to the care free, but romantic attitude of the era, with this remaining consistent throughout the listen. The ... read more
An album that contains fun tracks like HISS and BOA but gives in to the current epidemic that modern rap faces, a sad lack of personality. The lyrical focus on stereotypical tropes of female rap like overdoing sexuality bring down the general quality of the album's themes and may leave a listener bored, but it may also turn them on as well, so I guess there are upsides to everything. Many songs on the album contain satisfying flows but song sections seem too indifferent from eachother to ... read more
