I think this is such a great live recording, and while part of my appreciation does come from being at one of the shows it was recorded at, his live sound is very distinct from his studio sound and the way he has had some of his prior songs grow into his newer song is shown very well on here. One of, if not, my favorite live albums.
Really beautiful middle ground between dream pop and its noisier sibling shoegaze. Tends to sit more in that dream pop zone but moments where it gets noisier work really well as a result of that dynamic. Not perfect by any means but it hits the spot better than most dream pop albums as a whole. Red Sea, Thursday, and Lions and Tigers are the standouts to me despite everything else being pretty good as well.
This album is so good it’s hard to handle. All of her vocal performances are entrancing, the things that she is able to explore though each songs is fascinating, and her lyrics are poignant and clear while also being poetic and esoteric. I love this album so much. Every single song is so catchy and fun. She never feels the need to be serious or pretentious in any way. These are songs you can listen to at any time and feel the need to bop your head along. If you go in expecting something profound, it is not there. If you are looking for an extremely pleasant way to spend about 20 minutes you're in the right place. And its a rare album that makes you realize that punk can be lighthearted.
Another album I neglected to review when I listened for the first time. The good news is that, after listening to it maybe three times afterwards it never loses its magic. Infinitely listenable if you're willing to completely lock in every time. But unlike other albums of hers, I'd say there's a certain level of palatability that makes it easier to recommend to people.
