I like this project more than most seem to, but please guys, lets mix it up next time.
While it is a bit far out there for me to revisit it regularly, I can't deny the phenomenal work presented on this album. Someone once described Smile as "Radiohead without hooks" and this album makes me wonder, is that a bad thing?
A surprising twist as Marcus dials down the guitar and turns up the piano. A genuinely beautiful record and Fuck My Life Up Again is probably my favorite track of the year so far. All at once spiritual and human. Another great project from Marcus King.
A carnival of soundscapes that feel all at once like playing with china dolls and rocking a grimy venue in south london, this project is an excellent showing for VW. The guitars on this thing kick so much ass.
This project gets so samey by the time it reaches the end and Yeat keeps adding new tracks that don't bring anything new to the already monotonous soundscapes. Definitely better than other Yeat projects and the production and mixing are immaculate, but there just isn't enough variety to justify the length.
Sorry guys, I can't agree on this one. Take the mediocre diss track off the end and this project works so well. Crocodile Tearz and Hunting Wabbitz are both excellent lyrical tracks for Cole. Not as good as The Off-Season at bringing that early 2000's mixtape fun, but pretty damn close. I don't get the hate.
Hell yes. I have never checked out Bob Vylan before but after another review said he was giving Genesis Owusu, I had to check him out. This project is insane from top to bottom. Biting political commentary and a beautiful blend of rock and hip hop that never sacrifices catchiness or accessibility when attacking its message.
THis project worked for me on so many levels. More tHan any otHer ScHoolboy Q project ever Has. I mean it is so good. CatcHy Hooks, great smokey production. A good blend of fun and introspective tracks, and Q really feels Hungry Here.
The opening track is so good and the Rocky and Cole features really work but otherwise it is mostly a flat bunch of nothingness.
A fun mix of trap and R&B that definitely gets a little samey after awhile. Gains a whole 10 points for Like That, a banger even without the Kendrick verse. Great for parties and I think Future's sing song-y delivery really works
I really enjoy the idea of this album and the production on the first 4 tracks is so cool. That being said, I feel like some features could've REALLY helped this album shine. Kim just doesn't have the skill or vocal prowess to make the cool novelty of this project stretch it's whole length.
This album pisses me off due to Bruiser Wolf's sheer potential! Seriously Dope Game Stupid was such a breath of fresh air and this album is... annoying? Holla At Ya Man is one of the worst songs in the genre I have ever heard. Bruiser Brigade deserves better
Don't get me wrong, this is a solid indie rock album, but to me it sounds just like every other indie rock debut... I just feel like when we have crazy experimentation in the genre from groups like Geese, the lack of originality here is obvious. I enjoyed it, but I can't see it sticking in my memory for long.
LETS GOOOOO! I have had this thing on repeat since it dropped. The songwriting here is absolutely beautiful. This is my first St. Vincent album but I totally get the cult of personality surrounding her music. I can't wait to dive deeper into her discog. The closing track is such an epic finale it makes me want to dance in a field of fire
This one really disappointed me. Sheer Mag just can't seem to live up to their potential. The talent is there but the song writing is so bare bones. Also, the mix was pretty monotonous here. Wanted to like it a lot more than I did :/
Sorry gang. It is alright but I'm not sure I fully get the hype on this one. It is good. The production is great, but it is a little too long and I think conceptually it is a little messy. It definitely intrigued me enough that I may revisit it again later.
While there are a select few songs on here I adore, a good selection of them are indicative of the worst of what the Black Keys have become, boring dad rock that you play in car commercials. I can't see myself revisiting this one.
