sphere could have been edited down to half the time and still been a good mood setter. afterglow properly kicks things off and is generally what i would consider to be the most immediately gratifying track. walls on the other hand is quite abrasive, although it leaves me wanting them to have pushed it even further into something really explosive. communique is a nice bit of reprieve and tonal whiplash that slightly outstays its welcome. at your enemies and surrogate people are surprisingly fun ... read more
on one hand I can appreciate the sentimental, albeit blunt nature of his lyrics. what really erases any good will for me is the absence of any charisma and his shrill, whiny delivery - and this is coming from someone who likes their fair share of emo music. guess this case just really stretched past my point of tolerance and made listening to this album more of a chore than anything else. shame it only seemed to go downhill from here, as there is definitely potential for something promising.
please come back home, richard. the occasional visit isn’t enough for the kids and i. we miss you.
solo tracks with bishop were fine and impressive enough given his age at the time. doom really helps add seasoning to what would otherwise be a fairly bland and forgettable record.
no mention of clown nor blob fish. what a shame. could have at least given them an honorable mention.
would play this at a function until being dragged out with a comically large cane and chucked at with tomatoes
starts off decent enough. often blended into itself rather than having each track stand out as its own. singles hold up well, nostalgia aside.
it did not serve me right to suffer listening to this album without enough moonshine and cheap tobacco to leave me in a melancholic stupor
ain't hard to tell why this has continued to be revered even after so many years. would probably hit hardest at a dingy lounge clouded in thick cigar smoke.
immaculate vibes from front to back. has yet to fail in bringing my mood up whenever put on. looking forward to desecrating these quality tracks over drunken karaoke someday.
tired as it sounds, first listening to this record high really did provide a uniquely expansive and powerful experience. all subsequent listens have been sober yet just as positive. definitely best reserved for late nights and long rides.
Has held up reasonably well coming back to it years after my teenage Chili Pepper phase. While I don't outright dislike anything on here, there were definitely a few tracks ( 5, 9, 10, 13, 14) that left me feeling more fatigued than nostalgic. Still a fun time overall with quality instrumentals, as to be expected with froosh in the mix.
