Fantastic release, but I think that stripped back nature of carrie & Lowell made it more emotional.
Although this album wasn't bad by any means, it still felt like a Radiohead lullaby and not its own sound. The sound isn't bad, but just was dull for the most part.
This Is such a grand debut that shows off genre mashes that are fantastic and clean but are transcended by the harmonies
terrific, eerie, and tension building beyond belief. The sound of this album conceptually captures a great balance between the scariness and beauty of the Idea of god coming back. It also pares so well with the incoming of the next century.
although the album gradually gets Better in the production department, the vocal mixing still isn't my favorite and sincerely annoys me.
so I mean I could write an essay on this album, but shortening it up I will just say that this is the greatest album to ever exist. Perfection beyond belief.
Looking through these reviews, I see I'm very much in the minority. Jeff is one of my favorite artists ever, but this record's vocal mastering and layering is terrrrrible. The entire album sounds so muted and quiet at times, but then the guitars will come in and Blare beyond belief.
A record drenched in sorrow and pain. The jazz portions of this record feel chaotic in the best way while the speaking parts are soft move the story along well.
very unique sound. Some sounds carry and lounge piano feel, while others are moved by Julian Koster's timid singing and singing saw.
The definition of mediocre. Solid raps but nothing that standouts, and some decently bad songs to bring the rating down.
when you take the raw 9 tracks that are on this original album, the album is perfect. They are 9 songs with completely different sounds but the same dystopian vibe to them.
sly and his family's magnum opus by every means, but there were moments that I didn't think everything was as cohesive as it possibly could have been.
I still believe titanic rising is one of the best vocal performances ever, but the absolute euphoric feeling of this album still stands against titanic rising.
The vocal layering is spotty, and for two of my favorite song writers and voices ever, this should definitely rank higher.
Really is one of the greatest albums ever. So personal on all fronts, but doesn't stray away from talking about this world as a whole. This is a top 5 album of all time.
