that small section really didn't need the overdriven guitar, just felt random and out of place. also, these lyrics are like prime annoying JPEG shit, he flows well and the beat is great but holy shit can this guy please not rap about KSI and Logan Paul I begggg
If the mixing wasn't as rough this would be a lot better. The lyrics are solid and good conceptually and the beat is good, it's just, the vocals mixing is so rough and on this beat, especially, where it's pretty barren and open, it needed good mixing to work.
The original is definitely better but this is still a really cool remix.
There's an interesting quantifiable humbleness to this project that gives it a lot of charm. You can really feel the fact that this is just a young guy venting about his problems over abstract beats, it's both poetic justice in a literal sense to himself and to those that relate. The beats are fantastic having work by Adé Hakim, Navy Blu, dj blackpower, MIKE himself and a few others, this mix of producers gives an interesting energy where the beats sound similar but also ... read more
Let me just preface this by saying I think there's really an interesting voicing to this album that can put to use in beautiful things once more sharpened, it's like finding some old clothing that's really valuable but a little dirty, it'll take time to clean up but once it is you'll have a great product. Now onto the actual music, I feel like some of the beats just didn't have enough to grab onto melodically so it was a little hard to get into them, like she just ... read more
JPEGMAFIA has always had some of the worst lyricism out of any semi-big rappers but it just gets tuah point. He's making random hawk noises, bottom tier bars, and random Johnny Test whipcrack sound effects on the second half of the beat. I like the guitar beats even if people typically call them boring I just think it's a fun sound, and it's solid here. I enjoy the sound but all the negatives easily outweigh any close-to-decent things I have to say about this.
I had set expectations for a basic rage release going in, however, I was pleasantly surprised! The production on the beats is really interesting and Skeletrix raps well on them, very neat album.
This is pretty basic PluggnB so if that's not your thing I'd skip this one. However, do NOT skip "KissMeThruDaPhone" it's the best by far and genuinely something I think people should check out even if this isn't a genre they enjoy that much.
Cops and robbers is genuinely perfect, I don't have the music theory knowledge to explain but the bridge part like 2 minutes in is the perfect inversion/whatever you call it to the actual chorus. It builds perfectly into it, I'm actually so obsessed, this album mixes rock and electronic so well it's great.
I love the atmospheric effect done on some of the tracks, it's clear EXitt! has a handle on the production style they're aiming for.
This sample work is genuinely so inspiring, kind of funny to say but track 5 with the Squidward sample is amazing. The creative use of it while still sounding good is impressive, it really makes it clear that you can make pretty much any sample work and seeing that creativity in action is awesome.
