On this lush, orchestral triumph of an indie pop record, Luna Li ponders the transitions and ephemeralities of life through soft rock-inspired melodies. Her vocal performance, effortlessly dancing between head and chest voices, is perfectly elevated by rich strings, woodwinds, and the occasional crunch of an electric guitar. Though the breeziness of this album may at first come off a bit samey, the attentive will find its subtle complexities as breathtaking as they are groovy.
a stunningly beautiful and moving collection of tracks, i truly felt like i was floating away in the best possible way. different songs draw on different influences, such as yacht rock and folk and traditional south asian music, making the album varied and interesting throughout, but still cohesive as a soul/rnb record.
It's not a bad album, but, comparted to what Poppy has proven herself to be capable of with her past album, it's definitely a bit disappointing. I think most of its songs have a lot of potential, but are held back by some aspect, such as poor production (Hard, Prove It), excessive repetition (Zig, 1s + 0s), or poor songwriting (Knockoff).
