Absolutely blew me away. Incredible production and songwriting sensibilities. I love how DENSE this album is, so many musical ideas that flow so naturally in every song. But sister... lets work on getting some better cover art. It's time to start making fierce cover arts... Also lets work on getting those runtime numbers up... we not doing 30 minutes "albums" anymore... That goes for all of you music makers reading this... No more 30 minute albums...
Maybe it's because I actually work in the clubs, and like work in dance + electronic music, but I feel like people's understanding of electronic dance music is very weak and bare bones, especially on this website. Unfortunately I found this record underwhelming just like her previous. She's lowkey terrified of making good dance music. Honestly sometimes you just need to go back to basics and leave all these flourishes at the door. There's so much noise and so many words but ... read more
Ambitious, but it just coming off as far too much and just soooooooooooooooooooooo fucking corny like the rest of her discography. Sounding a mess. Get up girl.
Incredible. Pretty consistent from top to bottom. Though I wish she dug more into what she did in CANNIBALISM! which remains to be a standout in her discography. Truly that song is a career highlight. CRANK is still awesome. $T. LOSER and BRITTANY MURPHY. were standouts. The production on BRITTANY MURPHY. is incredible. Really interestingly, I found that the album almost plays out like a series of vingettes rather than having a strong narrative. The album choses to build its world through ... read more
The follow up record to their first record... it feels like a big step in the right direction The actual sound of the record isn't too far removed from their previous EP. However, the arrangements and approach is soooo much more different. Trickpony takes a much more meditative and ambient approach, with plenty of the songs not having vocals or using them very sparingly. The production takes the wheel here and it is absolutely sublime. Very atmospheric... it's fierce girl...
Solid interpretation of the Trip-Hop sound for a modern audience. Focuses more on synths and drum programming than sampling and rock influences seen in other acts (Sneaker Pimps, Massive Attack, Portishead). Imo one of the stronger Trip-Hop releases in a while, though I feel like are almost a bit to ambient and lack some direction and drag. A welcome new direction for the group rather than dance tracks. Feels much more authentic.
I've seen this cover floating around for like a decade at this point, and after my first listen I can't help but feel dumb that I haven't checked this out sooner...! This is one of the most ambitious records I've ever heard... the fact that it was released in 1969 makes it that much better. Just every decision makes sense and feels so satifying. And I love a nice long song! 100% a must listen!
Very pleasantly surprised, I believe that it falls off towards the last three songs, but the first four tracks are quite something. Sometimes I feel like the vocal is mixed too loudly tbh, but super clean production. The Bjork comparisons are a bit much, but I 100% see the Kate Bush comparison. Looking forward to what she does next.
Clean production and some addictive grooves. Definitely up there as one of the best house records. Everytime I mix in one of these songs in at the club when I'm working, the people cant help but start moving and sweating! The extended mixes of the tracks only add to the grooves and bump of chicago house. Also the production is exteremly tight, and the engineering is top notch. Everything hits in the right frequencies and is clear in the mix. The vocal stacking is really nice too, reminds ... read more
Such a lush wonderful DJ mix, I so so SO rarely comeback to DJ mixes, usually a one and done type of thing. But this one is just excellent some classics and super deep cuts. A house connoisseur proving why she has had a decades long career and legend status.
