Kim petras finally creates a record worth listening to and its a very enjoyable listen, proving that the talent she exhibited at the beginning of her career was not a fluke. Without the interference of a record label, Kim shows us that she is a much better artist when she has complete control over her narrative. In the wave of sloppy electro-pop in the electroclash revival, Detour stands out with a complete point of view and focused sound from top to bottom.
Went back to listen to this after listening to his most recent album, lowkey hit after hit. So catchy and kitchy. Love the attitude of this album, so light hearted and campy. Not like incredibly boundary pushing for the time but very respectable and proves he has a great ear for melody and what not. Bass lines on this album are so good. Super consistent!
Girl bye. This some bullshittttttttt and you know it! Some of these beats are hot and undeniably good... but the vocals and arrangement just.................... This style of music has just not aged well and unfortunately Tiga makes no attempt to reinterpret the sound of his references for the contemporary landscape of dance, club, or pop music. Production is banging tho, drums are knockin boots girl.
Production is okay, album meanders a lot, lacks a lot of direction or cohesion. A lot of songs have random experimentation without a satisfying payoff. In the age of Arca, Perfume Genius, and James Blake, you just gotta do a little more and have fully thoughtout ambient records rather than a series of vingettes with super washed out and reverbed vocals over two guitar tracks and overly compressed/filtered breaks.
