Kim Petras - Detour
95

Kim petras finally creates a record worth listening to and its a very enjoyable listen, proving that the talent she exhibited at the beginning of her career was not a fluke. Without the interference of a record label, Kim shows us that she is a much better artist when she has complete control over her narrative. In the wave of sloppy electro-pop in the electroclash revival, Detour stands out with a complete point of view and focused sound from top to bottom.

Went back to listen to this after listening to his most recent album, lowkey hit after hit. So catchy and kitchy. Love the attitude of this album, so light hearted and campy. Not like incredibly boundary pushing for the time but very respectable and proves he has a great ear for melody and what not. Bass lines on this album are so good. Super consistent!

Tiga - HOTLIFE

Girl bye. This some bullshittttttttt and you know it! Some of these beats are hot and undeniably good... but the vocals and arrangement just.................... This style of music has just not aged well and unfortunately Tiga makes no attempt to reinterpret the sound of his references for the contemporary landscape of dance, club, or pop music. Production is banging tho, drums are knockin boots girl.

PlaqueBoyMax - Crash Dummy

Lacking artistic point of view + differentiation

Quiet Light - Blue Angel Sparkling Silver 2
55

Production is okay, album meanders a lot, lacks a lot of direction or cohesion. A lot of songs have random experimentation without a satisfying payoff. In the age of Arca, Perfume Genius, and James Blake, you just gotta do a little more and have fully thoughtout ambient records rather than a series of vingettes with super washed out and reverbed vocals over two guitar tracks and overly compressed/filtered breaks.

And if you are gonna do vingettes, you have Solange and L'rain to take ... read more

The Silkies - Happier

Just fine, nothing that really innovative. Produced and performed really nicely. Nice short project.

Deftones - Around the Fur

So good when you dont got twinks from bushwick in your ear telling you its bad

ADÉLA - KGB

lazy + corny + muddy low-end

Jessie Ware - Superbloom

to call this "disco" is disrespect to actual disco. Snooze fest grammy bait. Turn this shit off right NOW. Go listen to Hot 22... some real disco music...

Boots - Boots Bitch
85

Boots is a duo made up of a drag queen, (Abhijeet), and DJ (Kirk). They're known here in the Chicago scene for throwing their party "Boots". The party Boots has been running for a couple years now and has had numerous people DJ or do sets at their parties such as Rye Rye, LSDXOXO, and SoFTT. Boots is home to all the club kids and drag queens in Chicago, expect hard music and dim lights, and a lotttt of skin. The main scene in Chicago is house and techno (no surprise), but ... read more

Lil' Kim - Hard Core

Just an incredible showing from miss kim. Layed the groundwork for pop and rap today... a historical album that fucking bangs. Her pen is NASTY... The production across this album is so ovah. No doubt one of the best rap albums of all time.

Armani Caesar - THE LIZ 2

Still good asffff my girl know how to rap...The beat selection is the issue with this record. But when she is on the right beat... holy you can't convince me that she isn't the best out rn.

Armani Caesar - THE LIZ

So good. The beats are so good... her pen is severely underrated... flow is beyond. Love ha down... I wore this out in college

Gustavo Cerati - Bocanada

Its peak. Just listen to it. So beautiful.

The Deep - KPOP B!TCH
70

Honestly... it gags... but as an "album"... (25 minute "album"...), it is just far too inconsistent. The production across the whole record is so good though. Love just how creative it is and how against the grain it is. When you think about the landscape of Top 40 Korean Pop Music, KPOP B!TCH is quite transgressive and thats awesome.

hemlocke springs - the apple tree under the sea

EDIT: 70 -> 60
This bitch just be saying anything...........???
I think she's heading in the right direction overall....? I don't know, I was hoping for a bigger development in her sound from her previous project which I feel like I didn't get. The production is great, which I appreciate the consistency with in her discography.

You really lose points for putting an interlude on a 10 track record... 9 full length songs for a debut is just... Just no. Just in general, I am sick ... read more

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper
57

Holy glaze? Ambitious, but comes off as bloated and overly indulgent.
Vocal performance is not good at all. Quadeca cannot sing and these glottal stops are so annoying, his vowels are terrible, and you can tell he's singing from his throat and not his diaphram resulting in a cold, thin, and weak sound. And when he flips into falsetto he very clearly doesn't send the sound into the back of his head, resulting in again, a weak frail sound that sounds like a voice crack. A chore to ... read more

Cece Natalie - Miss Behaves

Cece Natalie, please drop the next LP, you got so many sons out here

Tiffany Day - HALO

The first four track run is exceptional, the album is dragged down by not being as consistent as the opening to be quite honest. That opening track is something else! Afterwards there is a massive dip in quality and lyrical content. There are only so many ways you can say "omg i hate my body and I have no friends" before I get annoyed or irked. The production is great throughout the record. However the mixing is quite atrocious and takes away from how brilliant the production is. ... read more

PinkPantheress - Fancy Some More?

I keep listening over and over and it sounds worse and worse each time. Her biggest miss thus far.
