Have you ever had a Dance record put you to sleep?
Cause this one almost put me out!
Whole lot of nothing, so many times it feels like its building to something grand and cathartic... and then nothing happens. Actually nothing really happens at all during this entire album. Vocals are fine. Lyricism is like... I dunno... lyrics are there and you hear them. Can't even say the production is amazing cause it tries to be hypnotic and lowkey and it's just boring as fuck. And the ... read more
They got six extremely talented, hardworking, kind, intelligent, and beautiful young women and they got them talking bout takis gang gang fried chicken half naked on stage.
I remember I got to see her tour this album in Chicago when I was 15. This album is definitley drenched in nostalgia for me, on my re-listen it's not quite as strong as I remember it, but it definitley still holds up for the most part now. Between the snappy and textured production, songwriting, and these crazy FM synthesis screeches. 100% a step up from her debut record, it's just like hit after hit tbh.
It's honestly not that bad, but it's not that good. A very clear step down from her previous two records. Very much a nothing burger just as her follow up to this album would be.
Pretty mid, very derivative. Mass produced electronic pop for gay people on twitter. Not a bad place to start your career, glad she's not in katseye so she can pursue these sounds and topics. Hopefully the next record will be a step in the right direction.
One of the best Dance albums of all time, if not the best. The reason this album is so good imo is because unlike other dance albums/tracks, this one is so unbelievably DENSE. There is so much to sink your teeth into in every single damn song at every single second. She even got one of the best DJ's to ever live, Chicago LEGEND, Honey Fucking Dijon to produce on this record. Also its fucking Beyonce, the vocal performance on this record is generational.
It is so faithful to the history of ... read more
Everything is so blown out and over compressed, like hard to listen to or enjoy. Production is okay, nothing really ground breaking or new. Don't see any reason I would come back to this record unfortunately.
Uninspiring, lacking creative vision or clear artistic identity. Just not good.
She's wasting her time with this baby gay sapphic synth pop, do you hear that voice? This woman was born to be a rock star. Her cover of "Barracuda" live makes me believe it that much more. Such a stellar vocal performance throughout this record. I think the up beat tracks edge out the ballads on this record. Honestly she sounds more at home on them. I will say though Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl has some atrocious mixing. Like really bad. The ballads drag a little bit, but ... read more
The first four track run on this record is quite excellent... The sample flipping is great, and the mix is outstanding on songs like Tonight and Stars. I also appreciate it when a dance/dance adjacent record has songs mix into each other... that is what is supposed to happen!
However, my issue is the back half of the record. While there's not quite a big dip in song quality, I just feel like the record comes to a screeching halt. The first four songs build up this crazy momentum to Stars ... read more
I honestly think people are overcritical of this album, 67 is crazy! It's honestly like pretty solid... And the vocal performance is what brings me back to this record. Honestly the songwriting is like good too... I'm gonna sound crazy but lowkey she writes like a rapper... like some of these are BARS, not lyrics...
It is crazy boundary pushing? No!
It is good, easy listening pop music? Yes!
Great album.
Saw her live in Barcelona the day after she released Manchild...! While not reinventing the wheel, I really dont think its that bad of a track... same with Tears, I think its pretty good overall, it's like okay...! But like the rest of the album is literal dog water. It's such a massive step down from Short and Sweet. Like shockingly bad.
