'Kick' is White Rose Movement's first and final album, which is real unfortunate because this album has kick-ass basslines and drumming that's catchy as hell! Tracks such as "Girls in the Back" and "Love Is a Number" are immediately memorable and have such an attitude to it that remains throughout the album. They hit harder than they miss, and the misses aren't total losses either. Finn's vocals are really nice here, and the mixing/production is ... read more
'Testosterone!' has been on my radar for quite a while, and now that I'm on the hunt for more new rave releases, it was the perfect time to check this out. The entire album is humorous, upbeat, hits hard, and all the songs have this "homemade" kind of quality and atmosphere. I appreciate this homemade feeling to it, but the problem with it is that the mixing can get messy in most of the songs. Other than that. this is basically electroclash on loads of drugs, and it's unlike anything ... read more
Filter does a pretty great job making 'Title of Record' a complete listening experience. "Welcome To The Fold" sets the tone for the A-side of the album with heavy riffage, while standout track "Take A Picture" sets a less heavier tone for the B-side of the album (excluding "I Will Lead You" and "Skinny".) Richard's vocals are really great and fit in with all of the tracks on here. The smaller details, such as the groovy drum fills heard in "Captain ... read more
I can't even put the feeling I got from this album into words. It's hauntingly eerie, and oddly relaxing. Everything is blanketed in a thick layer of fuzz with sporadic electronic glitching in every track. This album probably would've survived without 'Before I Leave' and would've made it a more enjoyable listen for me, but it made up for it with the long Happy Audio. This album is beautiful and it left me speechless after it ended.
A pretty solid dance-punk EP with a fitting description from NME: "...The Pistolas have come up with the frankly mental idea of sounding like The Rapture playing Clash covers..." With a few sprinkles of new rave and alternative dance, it's groovy and energetic! The only problem is that there's nothing that makes it stand out from other dance-punk records released at the time. It's a pretty raw dance-punk sound, and there's nothing much else to write about it.
Thanks for sending me your album @TKS! You and Brilxonic, along with those who featured did a great job on the album after three years of work! Even if it's not particularly my style, you gotta appreciate how good the production is on here! The electronics on here flow really nicely with all the tracks on here. It did feel a little hit or miss at times, but the harder hitting tracks make up for it as well as the ending. The ending is more gentle compared to the start, and it's a really nice way ... read more
Working Men's Club throws synthpop, new rave, and EBM into a blender and the result is Fear Fear, a groovy and danceable record that's consistent, produced greatly, and hits hard. They sound really unique with this blend of genres and styles, which makes for an enjoyable listening experience! 19 opens the album strong with bangers that follow, such as Widow and Cut, but it unfortunately didn't hold my attention for very long the more it progressed. The Last One shouldn't be as long as it is, it ... read more
Gonnn takes a bold move into lo-fi with New Start, which feels out of place compared to the energy set by the next track, A Madness Encore. That doesn't mean it's bad, far from it, I think the track is quite relaxing! I could see this being used as a interlude track to the album or to one of the tracks from the album. Good work and good luck on cooking up some new material in a few months!
If Gonnn's previous project, 'ZephyrZ1', charted onto the 2024 ranked list, a single from their upcoming project, 'Sky Rush', would be released. And at the time of making this review, it charted a couple of hours ago! And here we are with a sick and energetic chiptune banger! Most of everything that made the ZephyrZ1 EP great is heard here, and I really dig that sound. I'm pretty hyped on how the rest of the album sounds!
A fortunately short dance/synth-punk album at clocks in that 18 minutes. It's consistent, instrumentals are solid, and the mixing is okay, but the vocals are the most repetitive and annoying part of this album. I think this album would've survived without the vocals. Other than that, it's pretty forgettable, except for two of the tracks. Big Deal and Plutonium Pigs are sticking with me but nothing else.
Abandonment issues
This is my first time listening to both of these artists, and it was an awful first impression. As far as I know, both artists are known for their poorly received records, and Sadboy is no exception. The record is 27 minutes long that felt like nearly an hour. All the songs feel empty, gets repetitive quicker than any record I've listened to before, and both vocalists emotionlessly ramble about how terrible life is. If a track has some kind of substance, like struggles' ... read more
Some very underrated early New Rave that sounds amazing! The three tracks on here are all bangers with high amounts of energy that stay high. Instrumentals and vocals are all very solid across the board as well. Despite "On Fire" appearing on "Need for Speed: Pro Street", these people never really got the attention they deserved.
If you combine two of your projects into one, the result created from that is ZephyrZ1, that contains extraordinary genre mashing and hefty bangers that invoke feelings of nostalgia. Being mainly influenced by chiptune and D&B, all of the tracks make use of this influence greatly. Sky Falling sends you straight into what could be one of the greatest songs I've heard this year, along with this EP's closer, We'll Touching the Sky. Next Time and Sugar are both very solid additions to the EP as ... read more
The Dare was horny one day, so they decided to share those emotions (poorly) in the form of song by creating an Electroclash album that throws you back to the 00s. It's a little groovy, although it gets repetitive fairly quickly, as well as being quite forgettable. There's nothing much else to write about, but it's probably nothing I'd come back to listening often.
Shitdisco makes new rave for those who look for an alternative for caffeine. This impressive debut album is full of energy, kickass drumming, and eccentric shouting that makes you question: "why in the world would this band name themselves Shitdisco?" There's a lot of fun to be had on this album with new rave bangers like 'I Know Kung Fu', 'Reactor Party', 'Another', and 'OK'. Joel Stone and Joe Reeves' vocals feel right at home with the direction this album takes, it's almost like ... read more
This EP is pretty inconsistent. Bloc Party kicks off the EP with a banger like Ratchet, then proceed to throw all that energy out of the window with the slow paced Obscene. They take back the energy they threw out the window with French Exit and throws it back out with Montreal. You probably get the idea. The album's slower moments feel like the only good parts of HYMNS, and are honestly overlooked tracks. Good background music to relax to. This whole EP is basically just a collection of stuff ... read more
Yeah Yeah Yeahs embrace synthesizers/keyboards and unexpectedly find themselves making one of the best albums in the New Rave scene. The first three tracks start off the album strong, they're infectiously catchy, groovy, and hit hard! The rest of the album stays solid with a few forgettable tracks that sometimes drag. Despite those minor problems, it's an enjoyable album from its roaring start to its calming finish. This truly is Blitz!
Datarock make their debut with groovy dance-punk bangers with some early new rave influences, before the genre was even a thing. Production is solid across the board, the album stays consistent, and the sound gives you this weird nostalgia feeling. The vocals are really good for a record in this genre too! If you've listened to Shitdisco before, you're going to love this record.
