favourite worst nightmare is an album which i think is a good one, i just find myself rarely coming back to it as a project. that being said, 505 is their best song and so i have to give it credit for that masterpiece, and tracks such as brianstorm, fluorescent adolescent and teddy picker are kind of iconic. it just, doesn't match up to their near perfect debut.
the album is also the first album in which i think they started to swap passion for 'aesthetic', a problem which i think became a ... read more
this album is insanely good. one of the best debuts of all time, and has an energy that i don't think they've ever been able to match. maybe i'm incredibly biased, as four out of my top five arctic monkeys songs are on this album, but gosh do i think this album is an absolute classic.
MUSE ARE BACK WHSHSJSKS WGDHSJKSMEE BR AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
ngl as a metalcore fan and a lifelong muse fan this is the thing that is uh going to make me complete
gosh! this is really good, can't wait to see what else these lot do!
with barely any promotion, a delayed tour and almost two years of the inability to celebrate these songs, NIT&EIP has had every reason to become the band's least popular album. but, two years on, the album still stands strong, and sounds amazing. the highs on this album are some of the best that shikari has ever created—with 'satellites' and 'the dreamer's hotel' being in the top ten of their career—and the rest of the album is incredibly fun and creative too.
the spark... an album that, after the two years of shit that the world has put us through, has aged like fine wine. the album is electric. it's not as 'heavy' as their past efforts, but it still fares well at examining the anxieties of a post-brexit, post-trump world. however, where this album shines is on more of a personal level, as this is shikari at their most emotional, with each song oozing with pure passion.
the spark demands your attention throughout, as it takes you on an emotional ... read more
their most 'prog-rock' record, the mindsweep is an incredibly good album from shikari, with some of their most dynamic and aesthetically vibrant songs laid out across a gripping concept, that pulls the emotion from their past two albums into a coalescence of urgency.
the highs are incredibly high, but the rest of the album can be forgettable at times, with songs such as 'stalemate', 'pack of thieves' and 'hello tyrannosaurus, meet tyrannicide'—songs that have good messages, but sound unexciting compared to the aforementioned highs—ultimately dragging an amazing album down to just a good one.
'and still we will be here, standing like statues.'
common dreads is a phenomenal album, taking all the momentum the band had from 'take to the skies' and channelling it into a blistering, bombastic, and vibrant selection of songs that pushed enter shikari to become the voice of a new revolution, right at the beginning of a new, dark era for the united kingdom.
good album, but the 'live in moscow' version significantly improves on it, as rou's vocals have aged like fine wine, and the live synths sound so much less tackier than their studio variants.
**TOP TEN OF 2021: Honourable Mention**

**TOP TEN OF 2021: Honourable Mention**
this album is incredibly entertaining, and i find myself listening to it so much. whilst i didn't think it was fair putting it into the top ten, due to the fact that it's just a collection of his youtube skits, i decided to put up here. will update with a full review when i can be motivated.
**TOP TEN OF 2021: 6**

**TOP TEN OF 2021: Special Mention**
i will not be reviewing this album nor ranking it anywhere on my top ten, as per jvne's wishes, but i wanted to at least acknowledge its existence on here and jvne's influence on me (obviously, as per my name, which was made as a homage to a younger me's favourite artist).
i am so sorry for your loss, jvne. thank you for the music and for the memories.
