Death Grips - No Love Deep Web
82

No Love Deep Web is the follow-up to Death Grips's incredibly impressive debut album; The Money Store, and whilst not as consistent as the latter, it'd be a crime to call this album a failure, because this thing is as chaotic, unpredictable, and experimental as one would expect a Death Grips album to be and then some.
The record starts with "Come Up and Get Me", an immensely punchy song with a glitchy instrumental where MC Ride raps his brains out, in typical fashion. The song ... read more

Death Grips' follow-up to their groundbreaking debut Mixtape is in the same realm of relentless aggression and unhinged energy, but while it's not as unfathomably raw as its predecessor, it's certainly executed more stylishly and is more approachable.
The Money Store opens up with Get Got, an incredibly appealing song where MC Ride raps smoothly over a hard-hitting instrumental and delivers one of the catchiest hooks known to mankind. The next song, The Fever, retains the traditionally chaotic ... read more

Death Grips - Exmilitary
95

Death Grips' Breakthrough Mixtape is one of, if not, the most unhinged, chaotic and aggressive piece of music I've ever listened to.
Duo Vocalist MC Ride screams his brains out on almost every track over ridiculously hardcore instrumentals. I understand that Death Grips and more specifically, this mixtape isn't for everyone, but if you're into music that resembles the most uncontrollably weird sounds ever created, you'll love this. The lyrical themes explore human rebellion, greed and the ... read more

Massive Attack - The Spoils / Come Near Me

Not as impressed with The Spoils as I was with Ritual Spirit, but it's still a solid release nonetheless.

Massive Attack - Ritual Spirit
83

A very compelling EP from Massive Attack. Dead Editors is the highlight of this project for me. I love the several layers of unpredictability and glitchiness surrounding it. The other songs are great too. I do wish Massive Attack's comeback in 2016 led to an Album being released at some point during that year though.

Massive Attack - Heligoland
82

Massive Attack's Final album, Heligoland, is an ambitious comeback project that sees the group delving into a warmer sound after the very chilling 100th Window, but does this Album match up with the persistent quality of the group's Discography? I would say so, though not by much.
Pray for Rain is an excellent introductory track featuring Tunde Adebimpe, who delivers a fantastic vocal performance over a multi-layered hypnotic instrumental. Splitting the Atom is a phenomenal song that sees ... read more

Massive Attack - 100th Window

Being Massive Attack's follow-up to Mezzanine is already a difficult task enough as it is, but did 100th Window live up to its high expectations?
This record stands out in Massive Attack's Discography because, unlike the rest of their catalogue, the style of the sound doesn't change much. Having relatively similar energy to Mezzanine, although virtually every song here is characterized by having a ghastly and mysterious atmosphere, one could say this record retains the dark tone of Mezzanine, ... read more

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
100

Massive Attack's Magnum Opus, and one of the best albums ever recorded.

The Dark tone that is set throughout most of the songs is unparalleled. The Production is flawless and so ahead of its time that it still sounds futuristic in 2023. Robert Del Naja's vocals are ominous and mysterious, which makes them all the more compelling. Daddy G's vocal performances in Risingson and Mezzanine are so incredible I wish his appearances were more frequent. The Album opener, Angel, featuring Horace Andy, ... read more

Massive Attack - Protection
86

Protection is the second album from Trip-Hop's Legendary band Massive Attack.

This Album is often perceived as the weakest link from the 90's Massive Attack Era, and whilst it's not as masterful as Mezzanine or as Influential as Blue Lines, it's still a great project, worthy of standing on its own. The Album starts insanely strong with a three-track run that is so good it slightly outshines the rest of the album; Protection, Karmacoma and Three are Trip-Hop gems that carry the staple of being ... read more

Massive Attack - Blue Lines

Massive Attack's Iconic Debut Album is an admirable record that is nothing short of greatness and quality. The production and sound of this LP are immensely smooth and pleasant to the ear. The Instrumentals flow very nicely and the vocal performances are mostly fantastic. The Album opens up with a brilliant intro in Safe from Harm, which features an excellent appearance by singer Shara Nelson, who is swiftly complimented by prominent Band Vocalist Robert del Naja. The following track One Love ... read more

Stormzy - This Is What I Mean
84

In my eyes, this album is severely underappreciated, mostly due to it being something people weren't expecting Stormzy to drop. Throughout 12 songs, Michael pours his heart out to romance-themed lyrics and soulful instrumentals. The features add an extra layer of elegance as well. The record might lack the aggressive spark that Stormzy is usually known for, which is why I understand that a lot of people were thrown off by how slow-paced this album is, but once you take the time to fully delve ... read more

Dave - We're All Alone In This Together
86

Dave's Sophomore Album wasn't as impactful as Psychodrama, however, it's still packed with wonderful storytelling, sharp lyricism, a great beat selection and strong flows. Very much like the previous LP, this is Conscious Hip-Hop done extremely well. I just think that what this record does, Psychodrama does better. Still a great experience though.

FAVOURITE SONG: Heart Attack
BEST SONGS: We're All Alone, In the Fire, Heart Attack, Survivor's Guilt
WORST SONG: Twenty to One

Stormzy - Heavy Is the Head
85

One of the most powerful Statements in British Hip-Hop. The idea of Stormzy not succumbing to the weight and pressure of being such a massive presence in music is executed very well. His metaphorical crown might weigh him down, but he still manages to carry himself and deliver quality music. Pressure makes diamonds.

FAVOURITE SONG: Rainfall
BEST TRACKS: Crown, Rainfall, Rachael's Little Brother, Do Better, Don't Forget to Breathe, One Second, Wiley Flow, Lessons
WORST TRACK: Own It

Dave - PSYCHODRAMA
100

This album is absolutely fantastic. Conscious Hip-Hop at its finest. Dave's lyricism is superb and every verse matches up perfectly with the tone that is set. The sound of the instrumentals is in complete sync with the heavy subject matter presented to the listener. Overall it's an amazing experience where you go through Dave's struggles, accomplishments and thoughts like you were David himself.

FAVOURITE SONG: Psycho
PERFECT TRACKS: Psycho, Streatham, Black, Screwface Capital, Lesley, ... read more

"I wasn't super crazy about it either on my first listen, but I was interested enough to keep listening to it and let me tell you, this album may take a bit to click, but when it does, it's amazing. I didn't like Blood Creepin at all when I first heard it and now it's one of my favourite songs ever."
