The beats and rapping here are amazing and the lyrics are very upfront, whether flaunting or venting. Overall there’s a lot to this album.
This album kinda puts me in a weird spot. Navy Blue’s lyricism is still top notch, painting Mona Lisa level pictures of his journey of self growth, realization, and his relationship with God. There are some fantastic songs here, with my personal favorites being F.E.A.R., If God Had Legs, Circa, Belladonna, Crux Andsata, Residuum, & Sir Render.
However, and maybe the fault lies on me, I just don’t feel necessarily immersed into this project even compared to the two previous ... read more
Found this on a whim, everything from the vocals to the instruments and melodies are finely crafted and powerful, leaving you wanting even more.
A solidly consistent debut album that really showcases the quirky textures and charm that would define his later projects.
A really sweet collection of songs that each have their own charm to it. Despite it being just her debut album she shows plenty of promise and potential.
All throughout you get a transcendent feeling from the ethereal instrumentation (mostly piano loops) working in tandem with Navy Blue’s powerful lyrics of acceptance and growing despite your struggles both past and present.
A short, but beautiful album with every song akin to a stanza, adding up to a grand poem excellently written.
The whole album from start to finish has this psychedelic vibe that makes you feel like you’re riding on wave traveling through space—alone, but at peace. Overall a really pleasant, chill experience.
At first, I kinda struggled trying to understand it.
But halfway through I think I started to understand this album.
Everything about this album makes you feel alert and on guard, you hear years of pain, suffering, and passion in the vocals, messages centered around the African-American experience in modern day America caused by centuries of oppression, & the hardcore instrumentation that amplifies the overall mood and atmosphere of the album.
Thank you @zig for the recommendation!
Now that I’ve heard it, It sucks that I put this off for over a week. This is a pretty enjoyable and beautiful album to listen to, with it greatly (whether intentionally or not) encapsulating that winter time vibe. Couldn’t recommend more
A sweet, enjoyable album to listen to, quite glamorous.
Favorite Songs: Spoon, Flowers, Moonchild, Sunday, Pt. 1, & Sunday, Pt. 2
Holy sh!t this is even better than Demon Days.
To start, Plastic Beach continues the futuristic, dystopian themes seen on Demon Days, although doing it differently. Plastic, both literally and figuratively as a symbol of fakeness, is a large part of the messaging of the album. Because of the electric sound all throughout the album, it gives it a dark and eerie feeling that something is gonna happen, is happening, or has already happened, depending on what you’re talking about on here, and ... read more
It took nearly a week for this album to really seep in to fully appreciate it.
This album from front to back is nearly flawless, with so much purpose and life between each thing that is done here, from the vocals, the production, the features, and all of the vibes here, with the most prominent one for me being melancholy. I haven’t heard any other Gorillaz album before this and I’m trying to catch up to listen to their newest album. I hope whichever album that I pick next from them ... read more
My first Kenny Mason project, and it feels less like something I’ve never heard before, and more so a mix of a number of things I’ve heard before, but fused together and done at their best. Kenny’s voice, flow, & delivery is the cherry on top that brings it all home.
Really solid set of singles. If I had to pick, The Fall had the best rapping performances, while the other 2 had better production.
