This certainly is a ride. It manages to keep itself interesting and flowing with the exception of a few tracks.
It starts off strong and then falters a bit in the middle. For example: I think "Bleeding Horizon" really breaks the flow and comes seemingly out of nowhere.
The sax on the final track is glorious, I wish it was used more.
More surprising elements of that kind would very much be welcome to help flesh out the identity of this album.

A solid listen. With my limited knowledge of Machine Girl, this didn't deviate that much from what I was expecting. The vocals were kinda whatever to me. The instrumentals were banging tho for the most part.

The follow-up to "Knocknarea" is less immediate, less varied, and somewhat undercooked.

This single is also the first official appearance of Jarboe. Her screams are front and center right at the start of the title track.
The track is also strangely fast and beat focused for Swans. The more ... read more
"HIS BLOOD PUMPS OUT ON THE SIDEWALK"
Swans debut EP features a sound the band would never come back to again. A more typical no-wave and post-punk sound.
Very much reminiscent of Gira's previous group Circus Mort, and bands like The Birthday Party.
It's interesting to hear Swans take on these post-punk sounds. And they do it quite well.
One of the main differences between this and the Circus Mort EP seems to be a shift in tone. In the true early Swans fashion, this EP is much ... read more
