He keeps getting autoplayed for me on Spotify I decided I might as well go through another project of his.
Similarly to ‘when angels cry.’ the Kendrick influence is very clear, but I think he again does enough different and uniquely to still be worth listening to despite the often similar sound. Tracks like ‘where’s the confetti?’ and ‘black samurai’ could honestly fit into a JID or Joey Badass album and I wouldn’t notice much particularly ... read more
Vince Staples’ latest album ‘Cry Baby’ is quite possibly his most unique soundscape and most politically charged album yet.
Through an incredible fusion of punk rock and the natural hip hop delivery that Vince has used throughout his now decade long career of LP releases he creates a perfect platform to powerfully express his views and problems with modern day America.
This is a completely novel and unique sound for Vince in his discography to this point, and is the most ... read more
So this passed as a World Cup song because LISA says 'goals' over and over?
Well it was a good run while it lasted. This is the same guy that released Veteran, AMHAC, OFFLINE!, STH, ILDMLFY, JOECHILLWORLD, DSS, and TGPT by the way.
For the past 8 years JPEGMAFIA has been releasing nothing but exemplary music in the experimental hip hop field that has repeatedly been some of the best music of each year he released an album. Since the release of Veteran in 2018 there hasn't been anything even close to a miss in his discography. Until now.
On EXPERIMENTAL RAP ... read more
What stands out to me as the biggest issue with this project is how bloated it is.
fakemink is usually a very "all killer, no filler" type of artist, where almost all of the fat is cut away to leave the juiciest tracks only, resulting in overall higher quality projects. On his debut album, 'London's Saviour' he was amazing at this, cutting it down to only 9 of the highest quality tracks in his entire discography including really only 5 or 6 full length songs ... read more
Please just never make music again. Why would someone even think it is a good idea to drop something as bad as this once, let alone twice in the same day. This is just the most bland and boring R&B combined with some of the worst lyricism I have ever heard, and sitting on a bed of dry plain rice production that has absolutely no originality or intrigue whatsoever.
I was hoping this would have been a dance EP based on the title. In reality it's a very rough trap/rage aesthetic that doesn't really do anything for me. Simz properly rapped for less than 2 minutes on here on the first track, and those were probably the only moments I genuinely enjoyed. For a while Little Simz never really drops particularly good EPs, just experiments, which I don't mind at all because it's cool to get new music, but this experiment either needs a drastic ... read more
‘Maybe I should start an Only Fans and show some feet’ ππ₯
That was the last line of the entire album π
Very funky as always from Thundercat. Some amazing features including a tragically lively posthumous track with Mac Miller helped to make for a memorable first half of the album, with a more diverse range of sounds that set the album up for success. Unfortunately from track 9 onwards nothing was too standout, though most of the tracks still had nice vibes with the ... read more
Music to enter into Agartha to
This is genuinely a really intriguing and impressive electronic/ambient album, with super atmospheric production that doesn't get too far ambient to the point where it is boring to me, but rather to where it creates a sense of tranquillity and just evokes a calmness while listening to. At points this was completely ethereal, a quality that should be present across future projects as there is clear promise of being able to reach a top level of music creation ... read more
Thank you for the recommendation @Mihal Lunar (zig)
this is has a great calming vibe to it that sort of just soothes the mind really nicely
Thank you to @lockedinlocke for the recommendation!
It's sort of everything you would expect from an underground jazz rap album, but just done that little bit better. What makes this stand out to a degree is how it manages to just about have the track be different enough from each other for it to not blend into the crowd too much. Despite this I think this project didn't really have enough peaks to stand out more than it did to me, as while it was never particularly weak, it was also ... read more
Gorillaz have really made something special.
After over a decade and a half of Gorillaz releasing music that was for the mist part very disappointing, I was very intrigued to hear what they could do on an album that seems to have been significantly more anticipated than their other recent work.
I have been a fan of some Gorillaz albums prior to this one, though I can’t say I’m any kind of a superfan, as while I have enjoyed them a lot on first listen I have found myself ... read more
The guitar and just overall production is amazing, though at times it felt a little repetitive. I'm not a fan of metal at all so the all the screamed vocals just made me drop my rating by a little unfortunately, because outside of that there was nothing that I didn't like. I cannot wait for his electronica project that he is working on, I think he will do brilliantly with it for sure, and I reckon I will prefer it to this and path to the aimless because a great electronic album is ... read more
It's a pretty cool song, though a little too repetitive for my taste. The overall sound was nice but I think it dragged on a little too long in the end.
Thank you @sircomprophet for the recommendation!
I'm obviously just not a big fan of the routes that Baraka Awola and Muspelheim are going with more ambient music. I think it's just because I find this kind of music incredibly boring unless done to an exceptional level, which unfortunately this is not in my opinion.
A clear improvement over 665200, symbiosis showcases a stronger ability to craft more enticing and enjoyable beats. While still not achieving any particularly impressive moments, I think it is clear that this is a good step in the right direction. unremarkable was the standout for me, with a groovy baseline creating the perfect framework for an enjoyable track if replicated to a similar quality the future.

weren't people glazing this because of that fake story and then it turned out to be made by AI?
What even is this? After listening to folx I knew I had to try out the other album by friends&, with its very long name, large group of artists involved, and again more songs than minutes. Similar to folx, this album comes across as a mess of sounds done pretty well, though not on the same level as their other incredible project.
This group of artists came together to make a sort of controlled chaos, with crazy chopped up sounding instrumentals and fragmented vocals and samples, making ... read more
Thank you @dungrabbit for the recommendation (even if I was going to listen anyway)!
Unfortunately I'm not really a big fan of ambient music, and this was very much ambient throughout. I think for an ambient LP this was fine, and sort of met my low expectations for enjoyment of ambient music. One problem I have with this album is just that I feel that many songs are too long (even if that is probably due to it being ambient), which led to something that sounded fine just slowly droning ... read more
