As you can hear on this record, Florence + The Machine is a great live band.
Sadly, from my point of view, this record came out now, after a record that didn't excite me as much as the ones before
and with a setlist that is packed with new songs. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but overall I just get the feeling that the song choices and order lacks the dramaturgy from previous tours and isn't as good as it could be.
Feels a bit similar to the first album, when I was a little underwhelmed after a phenomenal pre-album single (Take Back the Radio—then / Talk Over Town—now). Still a cool record though, that is definitely another step forward for Katy and makes you excited for everything that we can expect in the future from this artist.
So glad this came finally out and I have to say, they did a pretty decent job in mixing this. Sounds great!
I was looking forward to hear St. Vincent sing "All Tomorrow's Parties" because it would've fitted so well but all I've got is this spoken word, jazz-like elevator music version.
