WOWWWWW. Wow. It’s beautiful really. Their lyricism and melodies are perfection and create an overall really cohesive album. It’s special, and I’m sure will be a sonic salve for the right people.
The first half of this album felt flat to me. Just kind of basic garage indie, another opening band for the opener. Then, midway through the album, “Spin Out” comes in like a force of solid, well produced dreamy indie. I think it marks some kind of shift where the last half of the album has more of the energy and dimension. I don’t love all the songs, but there are 2-3 real good ones in there that raised up my rating.
I love the promotion of mexican music and the production on this is SO GOOD. While this isn’t exactly to my taste, I have a lot of respect for what they’re doing and the product itself. An impressive album, just not for me (I don’t love Peso’s voice tbh)
Sex Week feels like they would be a great opener to the opener of a really good indie band. I think Sex Week has the potentially to be a really good indie band, this is a good start. “Kid Muscle” felt really special and “Toad Mode” is silly but really sweet and kind of sexy? The rest of the album is fine, nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about. Excited to see what they do in future projects!
It’s joyful, it’s cinematic, it’s Diana Ross but not Diana Ross. I was thinking “this is like a Stevie Wonder album” only to find out they were literally married and he produced this album. No, of course.
I mean, it’s beautiful and I want it on vinyl just to get the full effect. I might need to play “Happiness” at my wedding.
C*nty!! This is what I want pop albums to sound like - bring 90s/early 2000s Janet Jackson back!! Catch me dancing to this alone in my room, trying on all my clubbing fits.
There’s a lot to like about this album, and i mean a LOT. It’s kind of psychedelic twang, it’s a lead singer who sounds like a male Stevie Nicks, it’s some really great individual songs that come together to make a cohesive album.
“Ribboned Skies” was a pleasant surprise - reminds me of those 5+ minute songs in 70s rock albums that break up the listening in a good way. “Keep Me in Mind” is a personal fave.
Solid and pleasant album! It’s like if someone said “Man i wish The Zombies had more music that was a little less sexy”. Most of the songs are generally good, but there’s an occasional standout (A Message To Pretty is top rated for a reason) that really gets your heart fluttering and makes you want to recommend this to other people.
