an excellent blend of atmosphere and songwriting. i love Mickey's use of dual acoustic guitars, like at the beginning of I Don't Think Much About Her No More, where the guitars trade off moving line duties. when playing chords, however, they act more like rhythmic accompaniment to the rest of what’s going on. there’s lots of variation in the arrangements, like the backing vocals which alternate between harmony and countermelody mid-song, even going operatic on I Don't Think Much ... read more
good album! lots of interesting textures in the orchestral bits, enough variety in articulation between each line to keep things interesting. the beginning of Hajnal in particular is very nice, with some vivaldi-esque melodic lines. unfortunately, the song loses steam a bit during the moments when we’re not hearing such melodies. the more sparse harmonic arrangements here and in a few other moments on the album work to its detriment when there’s little else going on besides the ... read more
