Redfog is an incredibly well executed instance of melodic death metal. The record seamlessly combines sounds found in classic metal with more modern and staunch instrumentation. Despite the familiarity of the sound, it manages to remain markedly unique and maintains the listeners attention for the entire 30-minute duration. The record doesn’t overstay it’s welcome either. Every track feels meticulously curated, I consistently found that each track ended with a precise sense of ... read more
Brilliant.
Knife Man is an ambitious album that subverts the expectations of fans who came in expecting a more refined successor to the sound from their earlier studio albums. Most notably that distinct tumultuous acoustic instrumentation found in the 2007 album "People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World." Make no mistake the album still permeates with the unmistakable identity of the band, while innovating in all the right places in order to for them to develop ... read more
I believe that artists can improve and better their craft, and in most cases I am willing to take a project like this at face value and give it a fair review. However, the attitude MGK had toward potential critics prior to the release of the album did not sit right with me. He appears to hold the belief that each critic is merely a delusional individual who despises him solely for his own existence and he refuses to acknowledge any constructive criticism given, therefore, it is advisable to ... read more
This is an album that feels tailor made for my tastes exactly.
The vocal performance is superb, with powerful piercing screams that greatly complement the tight and energetic instrumentals present throughout. It radiates with that distinct -almost cringy- punk charm that manages to feel authentic and raw without ever becoming tiring. This album manages to step away from some of the popular 90s punk conventions and delivers a more professionally produced product than the genre has really ever ... read more
A borderline ethereal experience. The production is wonderful, the vocals are amazing, the music is incredibly well written and the album has an immensely satisfying emotional payoff. There really isn't much more to be said, it is nearly perfect.
This is not art. This is not music. This is a pathetic attempt to capitalize on the most common struggles that teenage girls face during their developmental years. There is no nuance, it is insensitive, distasteful and disrespectful. Horrible.
This album is great. It features some of Serj Tankian's best vocal performances and the instrumentation on some of these tracks are the crème de la crème of metal musicianship. Not as revolutionary as Toxicity or as musically interesting as their later album Hypnotize but still a solid addition to a great discography
This walks a very fine line between between being an authentic and emotional experience and sounding incredibly corny and unfortunately it finds itself on either sides of that line at points. It's saving grace is definitely the authenticity behind everything, if you have listened to the artists' previous work this album has almost a cathartic feeling to it. The subject matter is very focused on the artist's struggles with their mental health, and there are points where it genuinely got ... read more
Tiktok and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the number of streams to smaller artists as long as they make music that fits the "short" format that the platform promotes, but it has destabilized the artistic merit in music, have made music unfulfilling , have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to wide spread phycological suffering (In comedy to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage to the natural ... read more
